Hoi An - Tailor for woman

jtodter

I'll be in Hoi An for a week at the end of November.  Would appreciate recommendation for a tailor to make some quite simple tops and vests, for a woman.  Thanks in advance.

(EDITED)

A place we liked when we lived in Hội An was

"Nga 328 Tailor"

next door to the very good "328 Restaurant":

328 Cửa Đại, Cẩm Châu (Google Maps Link)

She speaks English well enough to handle your order.

The fabric she has on hand might not exactly be your style but she has tons of swatches available.

IF YOU WANT TO COPY A PARTICULAR STYLE just bring along a piece of that clothing OR PHOTOS and she'll have it copied exactly.

In any case, as with ALL tailors in Hội An, she will simply help you choose a style & fabric and then measure you, then submit your order.

Virtually ALL tailors in Hội An send orders out to places where a lot of Vietnamese women work doing nothing but sewing clothes all day.

You can pay extra for same day service but often there's no extra charge for next day turnaround.

There is a fabric market at the edge of the ancient town tourist area (Google Maps link) but you can be overwhelmed by the many, MANY sellers trying to get you into their stall and purchase from them.(my favorite tailor there is "Thuỳ Hương 27 tailor" with 27 being her stall number)

As long as you can find the fabric swatch you need at 328, there's really no need to put yourself through that torture (though it is somewhat fun to walk through there and see all of the different and very colorful vendor stalls)

Also know that if you do decide to go to the fabric market and purchase bulk fabric, you will pay at least twice what Vietnamese people pay, sometimes four times the purchase price for locals.

Vietnam is really not an economical place to buy fabric unless you are a local Vietnamese woman.
