Traffic tickets

I hope people on here aren't too cautious to give an honest answer.

My experience is that DR police look for any excuse to stop a gringo. I've been stopped several times for very minor infractions while 3 Dominican drivers drove on the wrong side of the street and 2 more ran a red light during the traffic stop.

Every single time they offer to accept a bribe to avoid my receiving a ticket. I have never once initiated the bribe conversation. Is their bribe price negotiable?

They don't seem to have a vehicle. They've been on foot every single time with no vehicle in sight. What would happen if I didn't stop when they waived their arms?

What type of vehicle do you have? We drive a car and have only been stopped here a couple of times, including once when the Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum movie was filming toward Barbacoa, and they wanted to confirm we weren't trying to find the location!

I'm not a resident. I rent whatever small car I can get from the airport.

I would think not stopping could be a very bad idea.

Yes bribes or tips are always negotiable. Always keep 500rd or 10 us in a specific location you can pull it out and say it's all you have

Yes paying a bribe is the norm. I pay $20.00 U.S. for speeding tickets on the Coral Hwy. I have owned a car down here for 6 years and never encountered a random pull over in La Romana. I guess there is a first time for everything.....
