No retirement visas do not exist for Vietnam

Unless I am not up to date, there is no retirement visas available for western country expats in Vietnam unless they marry a Viet citizen. Such has never existed. What bothers me is that when this site or others talk about expats, the implication is that one can get a retirement visa such as in Thailand or Cambodia. The fact is that if one wants to live in Vietnam and not marry a Viet it means endless border runs. The exception I have seen to this is if one gets a business license. If an expat wants to retire in Vietnam and not make border runs, there is no way. Does anyone refute this and offer information I am not aware of?

You certainly haven't been reading my many, many, MANY responses to posts on this subject.

Yes of course there is a retirement visa available in Vietnam, other than the example you gave of having a 1 year business visa (when successfully establishing a business here with a minimum capital contribution of ₫600,000,000 VNĐ).

There are three other levels of retirement visas available depending on the level of investment you are willing to make:

10 year Temporary Resident Card for a minimum ₫100 Billion VNĐ capital contribution in an approved industry.

5 year TRC for a minimum ₫50 Billion VNĐ capital contribution.

3 year TRC for a minimum ₫3 Billion VNĐ capital contribution.

What's not available is a retirement visa for virtually penniless pensioners wanting to stay here without enough resources & regular income to survive in their home country OR people of more substantial means who want to maintain all of their investments in their home country while taking advantage of the low cost of living here.

Take a chance on Vietnam through investing in the economy and you'll be rewarded with between 1 and ten years of residency.

But please don't post erroneous information about discussions in this forum that have never happened.

Nobody in this forum has been claiming that you can get a retirement visa here (without meeting financial requirements) since I first started participating in 2018.

Hi there. Would you please let us know where on the forum this has been implied?

We'll post a correction on any thread(s) which might imply that there is a VN retirement visa similar to that of Thailand's or Cambodia's.

Hi,

are you confusing forums perhaps?

I've seen no threads in last 6 months that suggest a retirement visa is available or planned. There have been numerous chats wishing for this style of visa  but responses have been accurate as far as I am aware. ie marry a Viet and there is a pathway...otherwise not.

PS if all the pensioners left VN and other SEAsian countries their GDP would drop!

PPS are border runs thatbig a problem?
