Help! Moving to Puerto Rico this week - registering a car

Post new topic

Hi, my wife and I are moving to Puerto Rico this week and are just now realizing that registering a car might be a serious issue. We are hoping to buy two cars pretty quickly after arriving but we have reserved an Airbnb for a month - meaning we don't have a long term rental agreement (unless the Airbnb address could be used??). Renting a car for a month or more is incredibly expensive. Anyone have ideas on how we can buy cars and prove our residency so that we can register them? We got the Airbnb because we would like to explore the option of buying a house before getting locked into a long term lease.

Please advise on what we could do in this situation?

If your buying cars at the dealership here on the island, I would ask one of the managers for assistance for this process. I was fortunate to have family living here which made it pretty simple. Don't panic, solutions are available.

I generally don't buy vehicles at the dealership as I prefer to pay cash for an older/cheaper vehicle. Thank you for the reply though.

Hello Rexlink1...good deal, I'm fairly certain whomever you buy your car from will be happy to make a suggestion. Worst case you can ask personnel at the local DMV, they may have options available for situations like yours. Best of luck!
