Opening a bank account in Brazil

Hi, I am moving to Brazil next week (Sept 15) and was wondering what are the minimum requirements to open a bank account in Brazil, specifically I would like to know can someone on a 3 month business visa open a bank account? I read the super helpful post "A Gringo's Survival Guide to Brazil" and am worried that I will have to pay the foreign transaction tax on each and every transaction! Please do let me know if someone has any idea/tip! Thanks!

08/27/22 @dedecadaver. The first time that you have to deal with a human being at Itaú and they realize that you don't have a CRNM, it'll be "game over". No sense drawing it out.

And my CRNM is the very first thing they always ask me for, no matter what I am in the bank branch for.

Ray that is strange. After I opened my account with Bradesco (which was HSBC) I am never asked for my RNE. Now the first 2 years I was asked in January to bring in my US tax returns and bank statement. That was to advise BB of my proof of residence due to monthly wire transfers. Since then no one asks for anything.

As abthree mentioned once you have a question banks do need account # and CRNM.

The rules seem to change with every person you deal with in Brasil. I have bought an apartment, two cars, and as this discussion goes, my bank accounts and no one has ever asked me about my US tax returns or bank statements. In my fourteen years traveling to and from Brasil, I have never brought them with me or thought to do so. So interesting
