@alan279 I think the challenge is I don't know what "UBER CASH" is

if it is a way to refill your UBER APP or is it actual cash. If it is Cash, that does sound dangerous to be driving with cash on hand.

@Pablo888 Ok, that does not sound bad, but in the old days people just had their credit cards attached to their UBER APP. When did this start to happen

Yeah, the banking system in Brazil is so far ahead of the US.

There is no PIX in the US. There is paypal, apple cash... Are those not equal?

- @Pablo888

I think not. FedNow was to be the PIX equivalent in the US. FedNow seems to have failed.

In the old days people rode their horses to the nearest town to sell their produce and buy what they needed to sustain their hardscrabble farms.

I must admit I have become a little disappointed with pix. Now, whenever I send or receive a pix through a company account or one with a CNPJ, I have to pay a fee whereas it used to be free. I also understand there are more changes afoot...

@Peter Itamaraca.....

I've owned businesses in North America and the interchange fee, that is, the commission banks and the C/C system charge for using a C/C is usually around 1.75% to 2.75% of the transaction amount (in my case anyways). I realise this changes based on your monthly volume, etc, but whatever.

Here it is not uncommon for large merchants to offer a 10% discount for cash or pix payment, as opposed to a C/C..........either the interchange fees here are every high, and/or the deposit clearing date of the C/C amount is longer than usual, hampering cash flow.

Interesting comment you made about fees for Pix, not surprised as the Brasilian budget is out of control and the PT/Haddad wants to tax the air we breathe.

I can’t speak for every supermarket, but the 2 big ones Mundial and Guanabarra did not accept credit cards on my last visit in 2024

Oh, I did not know about FedNow.

I also use Zelle to make payment to others.  I think that the main difference between the online payments between Brazil and the US is that Brazil use the CPF / CPNJ as identifier for payment but in the US, the phone number or bank account number is the identifier.

I think that this started a while back - as a Uber credit.  For example, when businesses give you a certain amount of money for Ubers - when I booked my hotel in Nashville, one of the perks was a daily $10 Uber credit to drop me to downtown and back - and this credit was activated by a code in the App and this credit expired when I left the hotel.  Then I guess that this business perk was expanded to anyone who can buy the credit with no expiration date in the form of Uber cash.

Minor change in the back end to remove the expiration date....

A PIX key (identifier) can be a person's CPF, cell phone number, email address or a self selected unique string.

In Canada we have INTERAC EFT which works exactly like a PIX does here but only with email or cell phone.

Yes.  I have tried that before.  If I remember correctly, you can send money from your CDN account to someone else who has a CDN account using email / message.  The bank will ask the sender to enter a password associated with the transfer.  When the receiver gets the transfer request via email, they can accept the transfer by entering the password.   The sender will need to communicate the password to the receiver by some other method or a separate email / message.

Works well.
