Banking Enquiry

stevebillo1

Does anyone know if a Bank of Cyprus joint account can be opened at the branch in Peyia, or would we have to do this in Paphos, we want to open an account purely to satisfy immigration requirements if we appy for pink slip residency later in 2025, we know that joint accounts can't be created online using the BOC app only sole personal accounts.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve

I can't see why a joint application would be difficult. I would suggest however that you contact them beforehand to confirm what paperwork they would need you to provide either prior to the visit or upon arrival.

I live in the area and have banked with the Coral Bay branch for many years. No problems whatsoever and always got the service I required.

Should you need contact details or any other assistance don't hesitate to drop me a line.

@Drambuie

Hi mate I've got all details from paphos branch advising on paperwork needed, I just thought it would be easier to open the account at peyia branch rather than going to paphos, because we will be staying in peyia for one month 26th march to 23th april, so if they have contact details I would appreciate it if you could send please, I thought the peyia/coral beach branch was perhaps just a hub that could not facilitate account opening cheers steve

Drambuie

Agreed much easier to visit Coral Bay.

My pleasure, best wishes for your move.

Not sure it would really matter. Although not in Cyprus, but but I've had got bank accounts in other countries and always used the branch nearest to where I was living without any issues. So can't see Cyprus being any different.

On the subject of bank accounts, do we have to have a Cyprus bank account to pay utility and local council tax bills.  Are there any advantages or disadvantages to not having a Cypriot bank account.

Thank you

Toon

@moresunplease

No as all bills can be paid via the JCC smart portal as long as you have the bills .electric water and refuse bills can usually get sent to Yiu direct via email.. Ive Ben paying mine this way for many years now.

But you do need a Cyprus bank account for residency.

charles533

For you newbeis a Cyprus Bank account is a must to obtain Residency. As Toon said we pay our bills through various methods. JCC or directly to the Provider. I must be honest, I dont have a local account now but then again us lot have been here for a long time and know how to circumvent.

Thank you for your replies Toon and Charles333.

The lawyer is dealing with takeover of electric and water, so have opted to go for her help with bank account too, just to make life easier and faster.  Hopefully once we are up and running, and picked a few brains over a drink or two, we will be able to do things more efficiently.
