Good afternoon.  Where are you moving from, and how much will you be moving?

Cserebogar

@Expatax

Yeah I do but you need to say from what country yer sending from. Don't  use Move +international. I have one guy i can dm you his info that will be better. Do it from the brazilian  side so you can 1)pay 1/2 up front n rest upon entry 2) even if their certified and accredited..still lots of issues with companies. Be aware of the tricks especially  the insurance  n lastly they won't  let you pack by owner.

Thanks for the response.  I only know something about moving from the US, so I wouldn't be of much help.  The one piece of good advice that should apply to anyone moving from just about anywhere is to choose a mover who has Brazil experience if at all possible.  Brazil is very much an outlier in the area of requirements, and general international experience isn't usually enough.  Best of luck to them!

It is important in the context of the question to know whereabouts in Brazil your client will be moving to. I am a Brit who moved here over 17 years ago, and shipped a whole lot of stuff that was entirely unsuitable, because I did not understand the climate and other details of where I was moving to. North Brazil is very different from south Brazil, and even the type of property that he may buy will have an impact.

If you could give more details...?

I shipped a 20 foot container of household goods from the US to Ilhéus 16 years ago. At that time, my furniture and appliances were worth nothing in the US and everything was very expensive in Brazil. It barely made economic sense back then, would it today?

100% agree with you, Alan. It really is a waste of time and money to ship to Brazil these days as everything is cheap and plentiful here now - as well as more suitable to the climate here.

Unless. of course, items have significant financial, sentimental or practical value...

01/17/25 I also agree.  There is almost no common household item that can't be replaced in Brazil with something of close or equal quality.  And for people moving to a place with a different voltage from their home country, moving appliances and electronics is a bad bet.

I only shipped a container because I was moving family heirlooms and an art collection -- irreplaceable items by definition.  I left almost everything else behind and can honestly say that I haven't missed or been unable to replace anything I didn't bring.  Except a North American style drainboard, and that fits easily under the clothes in a suitcase, no shipping required.

@Peter Itamaraca

He will move to Florianópolis, but I believe that the relocation firm will assist him with that matter

Peter Itamaraca

@Expatax

I would advise him to sell everything he can in the UK, rent fully furnished here to start with and then buy in Brazil...

Thank you!

This is very helpful information about moving to Brasil, I was thinking of bringing my TV and some appliances but after I realized that it is worth it, so I’ll buy most of the things I will need in Brasil, I’ve been traveling to South America and Europe and it’s a nightmare this voltage changes in some countries.

I have a electric bed ,  some clothes a electrical PC desk , clothes and my mother electric couch (Sentimental) that’s all I have

good idea is buying over there

thanks

@Hugodc2000 You're absolutely right, the voltage differences can be crazy! On top of that, the three-pin socket standard in Brazil makes things even more complicated. Indeed! If you have any questions about tax residency, visas, or fiscal obligations in Brazil, feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to help!

@Hugodc2000 Good Decision! FYI, I created a glass-enclosed YouTube studio in my house in Northeastern Brazil. On my Immigration Journey back to the USA to get documents and items in storage I did bring back to Brazil some of my video gear, especially lighting. I purchased a Golf Bag from Amazon. Com and brought several tall items through cargo.
