Looking to meet people and make new friends. Enjoy exploring this part of the island and trying out the restaurants and nightlife

I'm looking forward to the same thing after living in La Romana for 8 winters. I hope to immerse myself in the expat North American / Euro culture I am familiar with as well as the Dominican culture I have come to know on the south side of the country.

Welcome to the forums! We have some members in that area and hopefully they respond.

Provide a review of comparison of the two areas as I am interested.

I think he is new to Cabarete but his views on the 2 areas would be an excellent source of info for others.

There really is no comparison between La Romana and Cabarete. I spent a month in Cabarete once upon a time. Small, clean, friendly, more English spoken and yet higher prices for food because there are fewer services for a small population. Great beaches and the kite capital of the world.

La Romana is the 7th largest city in the D.R. with 150,000 people and the wild west driving attitude that might concern newcomers from other countries. Their public beach is not appealing at all. Grid lock traffic throughout the city on any given day, security issues if your not on your toes, and its fair share of poverty and pollution from the sugar mill on a south wind day.

I have worked and played in Casa de Campo next door to La Romana all these years and I live in Buena Vista Norte, a clean, secure subdivision bordering the countryside. However, I feel isolation from the sheer absence of Engilsh speaking people down here and I am ready to seek out expat Canadians on the north coast to enrich and enhance my experiences in this tropical paradise.

Did not realize and mainly only have passed thru the area. I havent been to Casa De Campo so thought the area in general was better.
