Spent a few days in Nha Trang and heres what I found.

Last week we took a flight near Nha Trang and then a shuttle bus into Nha Trang.

I will give a few things I found/ experienced incase anyone else is considering going.

The first thing I noticed was the huge number of Russians. In some areas there were more of them than locals. Russian seems to be the secondary language as well as many menus are in Cyrillic.

I lived in the Former USSR for a number of years and enjoy slavic ppl and enjoyed eating a few Russian dishes I have not had for a while.

If you go up the coast just a few miles and cross a bridge it is an extended area with even more Russians and I presume they are longer term visitors as the area becomes less flashy and more typical.

Things were surprisingly affordable unless you are in a higher-end place but even then, very reasonable in pricing. Hotels were also as low cost as any place I have been.

If I am staying in an area with lots of options I will not stay in one hotel more than a few days as switching hotels seems to make the days stand out more, so they don't all become routine.

There is a local amusement area VINPEARL that went to. We went in after 16::00 for around 600K per ticket. which includes the cost of the cable car which is required to cross over to the island.

It was bigger and nicer than I imagined and surprisingly, the Street-food venders were as affordable as anyplace else in VN.  There is a whole city town main street thing and I wonder if the plans are for people to eventually live in the floors above the ground floor stores or if the whole 4-5 story street is for show only.

-Beaches were nice as any I have been on, considering it along a city.

-I rented a motorbike (100) for two days and that was a great idea.  I enjoy exploring rather than taxi destinations.

There is a new electric bus that consists of two lines. The main one goes from Vinpear (at the bottom of the coastal area) to a new, yet not quite open shopping area all the way at the top.  The second line goes from VinPearl to the Airport. So if you are scrimping, it would be possible to go from Nha Trang to the Airport (40 minutes away) by using those two bus lines.

Maybe it is the off-season but there were no crowds or lines to wait in for anything.

I am considering relocating to a cooler place like Nha Trang or Da lat so that was one reason for the trip. I am now looking into what the rental market looks like up there. I'm not a beach town person but I suppose if I were renting more in town I would not have the Russian tourist vibe in my face all the time.

Have you tried Da Nang?  We spent some time in Da Nang and it is our preference for many reasons (seasonal weather and not super hot all year long, very modern and closest to a western city I have seen in VN, beaches and lots of green spaces etc.).  However, wife tells me the Chinese are taking over the city.

FYI, that was Cam Ranh International Airport where you landed (at Cam Ranh Bay) - formerly the site of Cam Ranh Air Base and nearby Cam Ranh Naval Base.

If you ever cross paths with war veterans seeking info on those subjects, this is the sub-forum for them
