Opening a bank account in Scotland

Julien

Hi all,

is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in Scotland ?

Which documents are required to open a bank account in Scotland ?

How long does it take to open it ?

Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance)  ?

Which bank would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Julien

We went with HSBC and brought a copy of our lease and passport. It wasn't complicated, but the line was loooooong. I'd recommend making an appointment, wherever you go. No one seems to be in a hurry around here. It took about a week to get our card, another few days to get our pin, and we are still waiting on the online banking security key. But everyone was nice there. Went with HSBC on recommendation of others here ... heard many complaints about RBS. But there are a lot more branches of RBS, so it's a toss-up.
