Unexplained,
Like any other country/Culture, I am sure most of us have seen
A few things that we do not understand (behaviors, actions, rituals
).
well this is the place Where you can post your question and hopefully get answers.
As differences in cultures may lead to one offending someone else unintentionally.
ok here's one
cars i see driving around
why do they always have the import stickers on the windows and why do the never seem to actually unwrap the car from the delivery crate with all the plastic still on the seats and even the outer protective film in some cases?
do they not know that this is only how the car is delivered and not how they are supposed to keep it lol
@R80GS'er,
I Asked around and it seems they keep the plastic to protect the car from dust.
And the import sticker is kept to show off. !!
and I heard that some people buy the Import sticker.
I am usually pissed with taxi drivers who keep the sticker on the front windshield.
Hope that helped.
Back in time, that was before I moved to this place, a friend of mine told me that there comes a time when the solar heat on this land becomes horribly hot.
I asked her; What do you mean 'horribly hot'?
She said the temp soars well above 50'C!
I was like; 'hmmm...really?, sounds scaring hahaaa!
Of-course I didn't buy that then. I just couldn't, BUT now,
I know better!
Another car question. Why do Saudis spray paint all over the front of their car? Is it to protect it? If so why would you make it look s**t just to stop it looking s**t?

I believe this is being done to avoid the abrasion done by the fine particles of the sand to the body paint on a long and speedy run !!
Yeh I do agree it looks very very Funny and sometimes Yucky too !!

Thanks, I figured that was the case, so as I said they make it look s**t so it doesn't look s**t.

but its just for looong distance trips exceeding 1000KMs sometimes.. dey wash it away on completion of there journey !
What is it that they are spray painting over the fronts of their cars? Does anyone do this to their cars if they are going on long distance journeys?

Dunno why they don't use 'nappies' as they're known. Made for many types of car out of soft vinyl, you just slip them on and off, esp. made for rally cars and old beetles.

I asked around and some one told me that,
some of them do it to get a lighter shade of colour specially in dark coloured cars hoping to reduce the heat in summer time.
In addition to protecting the paint job from dust particles.

HA! They call them 'bras' in the USA
Lol @Alliecat,
I am kinda lost on how car nappies AKA "car Bras" look like.
is it that mask thing they place on the front of the car?

Here's a pic. In the US, I think they make them for almost every model car. They're vinyl. (just go to google images and google 'car bra' for more pics--google 'car nappies,' too! )
Although I guess a can of spray paint would be cheaper
SherriO wrote:On the positive side, I am glad to see people in Saudi being proactive to keep new / nice things that way. That doesn't seem to be at all important where I live.
Hey, Lady... Saudia is all about appearance and glitz (it's more important here than substance).
SherriO wrote:I like that! It reminds me of home!
lol
I'm American, too, but you don't know what it's like HERE. For example, a beautiful office complex is built and it's just incredible to look at. Wonderful architecture. Stunning travertine flooring. Huge crystal chandeliers.
But... the light bulbs keep blowing out; breakers continually popping; toilets that don't flush properly; window seals that aren't tight enough to keep out the sand; roofs leaking on the rare occasions it rains.
So what you see is beautiful and expensive; what you don't see was done with unskilled labor and cheap materials.
But the question is, which is the most important?
If you need help, please send a message!

in jeddah i saw some really cool ones
guys would get diff colors and make camo, or faces and stuff. Havent seen any cool ones in riyadh
but it washes off with soap and water
When you travel frequent between cities and you put your car on cruise control at 200KM/H, sand blasting does more damage then the spray paint.

Here's one on Religion.
Why don't they allow Non-Muslims to enter the Mecca (Makkah) city or visit the holy mosques (also in Madina)?
My office wouldn't let me visit our outlets there.

You answered it yourself: you're not Muslim. These are the two most revered places in Islam and they don't want us non-believers tainting it!
I can respect that

I understand that, but somehow not convinced.
I'm so close to seeing one of the holiest places in the world, yet no way I can go there.
