I am arriving in Cuenca on the 13th and will be there through the Holidays. Hoping to meet some ex-pats and enjoy the festivities of Christmas in Ecuador. If all goes well, I will
go back for a three month stay. Comments...suggestions please.

Manta is lame. Go to Cuenca.

Seriously though, Cuenca is beautiful, historical, relatively safe, and there are lots of other expats there if you're Spanish isn't perfect yet and you want to ease yourself in to the new lifestyle.

Manta is just a city. It's only plus is that it's on the beach, but if you want to live on the beach, go to Salinas, or Las Nuñez, or Olón. I've met plenty of expat in those places as well.
