One of my women colleagues from NY was in town last week on a business trip.  She stayed at the Four Seasons and after dinner one evening we were outside the main door when she saw these Harley's outside.  One of bikes she recognized as a USD40k bike - she is an avid rider, owns one, and even works on them.

We waited outside for a bit to see who owned this bike.  Out comes this guy and of course my colleague, being the New Yorker that she is, walks up to this guy and starts asking him how he keeps the dust/sand from ruining the engine.  I, obviously, was clueless about this conversation and could not contribute but was just watching.  This guy could not think of a word to say when she started telling him how she would have protected the engine, etc, etc.

Fast forward to 2 days later, we saw the guy again at the hotel.  My friend asked where his bike was and he says - its at the mechanic's shop.  He had asked his mechanic about my friend's suggestion and his mechanic said it was a brilliant idea!!

I really do not have any point in this except to say that the day we saw the Harley's at the Four Seasons, there were about 6 of these bikes lined up outside the front door!!  :)

Some of us Americans refer to Harley-Davidson's deep, throaty, rumbling obligato as "the sound of Freedom."  I submit that it may also be called "the sound of Inefficiency."

;-)

I've loved my time aboard my Harleys, but I really loves me some BMWs.  The R1200GS Adventure is a marvel of keen engineering.

Ride on!

P.S., I'd be scared to death to ride among the distracted wackos on the streets of Riyadh.  It summons the image of a baby seal rolling over to expose its soft underbelly, and waiting to be skinned.
