Hi dear,

Firstly, welcome to Mauritius in advance :) I'm sure you will enjoy the country. You are lucky as Mauritius is booming in the Higher Educational sector.

Usually all you would need is a degree, I'm not sure about the rest. You could contact the various universities that have set up in Mauritius so you can have a better idea. Oh, I just assumed that you were talking about university. Is it the case or are you thinking about primary and secondary education?

Also, you would need to take care of accommodation yourself - you have many choices - renting houses/flats or even house sharing (less popular but getting more attention nowadays). I myself will be looking for house sharing in the next few months so if that would interest you, do let me know :)

You can check these sites, they might help:

Hope this helps. If you need anything else, i would be glad to help :)

Best regards,

Krista

Hi Krista,

Thanks very much for your e-mail, whilst i would love to teach at University i would be happy just to secure any teaching job to start with to get a foot hold.  I am alway considering when to quit my job in the Uk and having an idea of what i can do would make this easier so thanks for the links.

i have a house in Rose Hill well more of a shell of a house infact a wreck my wife is Sino Mauritian and we have decided to give it ago the whilst we have good jobs here the stress is just not worth it anymore so were going to try and change the game and see how it works out.

were planning to come at the end of the year but anymore work days like today it may be a lot sooner!!

regards
Mark

Hi again Mark,

I was watching the news today and they are saying that there is a lack of secondary school teachers. This should be of interest to you. For those, you might have to contact the PSSA as it relates to government education.

May I ask in which field you are working or what degree do you have? Middlesex university has its own branch here, as well as Rushmore Business School, and also Charles Telfair Institute gives courses for degrees from Curtin University of Australia. ISITECH Business School apparently is linked with Coventry University, it is quite recent. I believe that you could definitely find your luck here, especially these few years.

Try to send them an email and get into contact with them. Since ur wife is or Mauritian origin, it should be very easy for you to come here. I suppose you do have friends and relatives in Mauritius? Do you know french or creole? It's a plus, but not a necessity. You might want to come for vacation and apply at the same time.

As for accomodation, well it's high time for renovation if you are planning to come, haha. Even if you do not stay there for long, you might consider renting it or part of it, it will be an additional income, a little safety net in some way. But as I said, there are many options that you could explore. It would be entirely up to you.

Here are some links that could help:

Charles Telfair Institute: http://www.telfair.ac.mu/index.htm

Middlesex University: http://www.mdx.ac.uk/mauritius
& http://www.middlesex.mu/

ISITECH Business School: http://ibs.ac.mu/2011/09/visit-of-coventry-university/

JSS Academy of Technical education: http://www.jssatemauritius.com/

I hope that I'm able to help. If you have any other queries, again, do not hesitate :)

Kind regards,

Krista

Hi Krista,  thanks for the additional info i have a BSc in Geography and an MA in South Asian Area studies and 10 year experience as a CEO but i would not like to teach buiness as i'm moving to get away from that.

I agreed to a one year extension to my contract yesterday which means we wont be moving until April 2013 which is not great but we really need to save some more money as buying the house there wiped us out. however, i only agreed to do 4 days per week so i will get one day per week in a school to get some experince.

hopefully we will get over in April to see if the house has fllen down yet !

talk soon

Mark

Hi Mark, hope you're doing good. It is very nice to hear that you will be getting some initial teaching experience before moving dowm here :) Btw just to let u know, private tuitions are also an option in mauritius so when you come down here, it could be something you might wanna try out.

I'm searching for a job myself and I would advise you to check myjob.mu, it is currently the main website ppl r using to apply for jobs You also have jobs.mu, jobsite.mu and if you google 'jobs mauritius' you should come up with a few more websites.

I hope you find your luck there and wish me luck too, I really need some :)

Take care and goodluck with your jobs, esp the teaching :) Hope to see you in Mauritius when you come here :)

Regards,

Krista
