Getting married in Ukraine

Post new topic

Armand

Hi all,

We invite all the ones who got married in Ukraine or who are about to get married in Ukraine to participate in this thread :)

What are the formalities to get married in Ukraine? Is it the same for a couple of foreigners of for a mixed couple (between a foreigner and a native of Ukraine)?

Are the procedures complicated?

How long does it take to carry out all the formalities?

Thank you in advance for participating,

Armand

The first part of the marriage proceeding does not take place at the church but at the registry office where the official registration ceremony takes place. This is where the bride and groom will officially become man and wife, whether a church ceremony takes place afterwards or not, so it is a crucial part of the proceedings.

Marriages in Ukraine are carried out by the governmental authority that registers civil status (рацс). A ceremony in church cannot substitute the official registration. If you want a ceremony in church, it is to be arranged and performed separately.
