Hi members
can any one tell me the no. and the places where shopping malls are available at tripoli
thanks
Are you looking to buy something in particular or just want to go to a mall?
Souq Thalatha is a big mall here and typically the easiest to find, (and IMO the best). Coming from Janzour you go eastbound on Gargaresh until you hit the huge traffic circle and you will find a large blue building on the south side of the traffic circle that is a mall. Right now the building is totally decked out with colored lights and has a green laser beam coming off of the roof so you shouldn't miss it:D Coming from Green Square you would find it by heading straight dowm Omar Mukhtar until you hit the same traffic circle. Hope that helps.
is there any boutiques here in Libya? such as quicksilver, DC and Circa, those are shoes for skateboarding....
Yes, am also wondering how the shopping is there? (We're arriving in a week!) Are there many global/western retail chains there?
Thanks
Good day
Souq Thalatha is the typical mall , you should visit it first where you can find pierre cardin , ted lapidus , daniel hechter, azzaro, uomo boss ,guy laroche , balman, cat , for men's fashion , and jennifer for ladies , at 4th floor , you can find also a big collection of cheap non branded items in the same mall.
Thanks

hi,
is there any problem to go outside alone to shop,
ı will live in tripoli with my husband, so ı don't know where to go in weekend. and if it is safe for us.
There is no problem with going out shopping on your own. I would not go wondering off into dark alleys, mind you, but if you stay in well populated and well lit areas you should be fine.
If you look for a hardware store ACE Hardware "AL-Saraya Store" has opened on 11.11.2009 in Tajoura 750 meters east to Befiu traffic sign right along the coastal road
Lawn & Garden, barbecue, camping, car accessories, hand & power tools, measuring tools, safety goods, plumbing, faucets & bath accessories, electrical devices & accessories, home storage & decoration solutions, house and kitchen goods, hard wares, glues, scotches & silicon, and paint for different purposes. about 15000 items of American, European brands. Its amazing. I advice you visit it.
There's SCOTCH??!!! Now THAT will get you a customer or two.
Aww, you got my hopes up. I suppose glue will have to do.

This is getting like a "misspent youth" thread
I prefer lighter gas
Is tripoli safe for womens. Can womens travel alone for shoping in tripol. How about the social environment for forein people in tripoli
I'm always at souk altulataa it's the best trust me
The shops in souk thuthalta mall in my opinion arent very good! Its the typical libyan shops that are evertywhere but more pricey! If you wanted branded goods, as someone else said Gargarish is best-bhs, marks and spencer, monsoon and new is Next (all UK stores). There's another mall in the middle of gargarish(blue dove)which again is the typical libyan fashion shops/gold. I think most expats I know, leave their shopping to trips outside libya. There is alot more choice though in the last 3 years than ever before.
During the day, its all pretty safe. Night time in the main souk thalat mall is also gine. Night time in gargarish rd and oul September st(near the medina) tends to be full of men beeping their horns at the local ladies!! The streets near the green square(oul september and another) are quite nice but again the libyan fashion shops. You can be lucky and get smthing nice.
Personally I love the traditional markets, more looking than buying though.
The real shopping mall now is still in construction.... it is located in the Gurgy road.
Dear Tony China,
Sorry but I don't agree with you ,the actual shopping mall is under construction on the airport road, the one which you have mentioned is still has not installed a single nail since one year.
The one on the airport road,is while going towards airport, when you arrive first traffic junction, look at the left side and you should see very big job site with many tower cranes and really growing very fast.
i was told that it is gonna open next march.

You can check out the niche boutique Al Farida.
it is located inside Daralsarah (...a place that hosts weddings, baby showers and parties in Libya....It used to be only for guests but now it is open to the public!
(moderated: no ads please)
That one also stopped or just proceeding like a turtle...
Like any other construction sites in Libya...
Anyway, starting sometimes mean %50 finished....

Hi everyone!
I am living at Turkey but will be moving in to Libya for 4 months later and leave all our things here. Can please anyone help me to give any information about the furnitures and appliances websites so I have the idea how much we need to buy for our new stuff.
Thank you all and hope I can make friends there soon!
Loads of the kitchen appliances are that Turkish made cheap-as-chips crap, so you should feel at home

Arce-Lik!
Hi Izel,
You may need your PS, wii, digiturk and most important "caydanlik" (teapot) as there is nothing else to drink besides tea, coffee and juices...
Arcel-Ik is really very famous and popular here (more than homeland) Here is another brand called Hommer and perfectly made in china. They have a product range from plates to ovens, cattles... Anything can be a Hommer.
For households and furniture, istik-b-al also exists and auite pricey compared to made in china's.
You can find many many turkish brands in shops from ulk-er to some brands we even dont know or saw before...
We moved to Trablus in July and found a flat with full furniture. But it took like a month and more than 40 places were visited for a "live-able" and "sleep-able" place...
You can feel free to contact us.
Burak,

A super-star!!
I do not have any websites for you to look at, but prices for appliances range from the very cheap to the very expensive.
For example, a good size fridge will start around 400 dinar and up. Gas stoves start from 200 and up. TVs 21 inch start around 130 dinar and up. Air conditioners start around 400 dinar. It all depends on what brand you want. The starting prices I am giving you are the cheapest and the products are not big brand names. Today I saw on TV that there is a shop that will furnish your whole apartment for 5000 dinar (or so my translator told me). I did not get details but the ad will be running for the month of Ramadan on Libyan TV. Good luck with the move and welcome to Libya!
unfortunately there are no proper brands of shopping to speak of just yet in libya ..And in fact, you must guard against counterfitting of brands just now ....but do not be discouraged ...Zumurrud Mall on the airport road will be completed in late 2011, and it will be home to over 250 international branded shops, restaurants, a multi plex cinema, ice skating rink, bowling, aquarium, and other forms of family entertainment. so, till the new mall is open, save your $$ and shop abroad!

Anyone have any idea if any brands allready committed to the upcoming malls?
does anyone know the popular brands in libya with regards to fast moving consumer goods, sodas, fast food chains, home appliances. please help.
thank you all
