Any auto enthusiasts in Riyadh?

Post new topic

Hey everyone,

I surely will be moving soon to Riyadh for  work, and wanted to know if anyone did any type of motorsports, or even just work on cars for their past time.  I'm a gear head during my past time, and  would like to meet some auto enthusiasts who drive Japanese cars, American Muscle cars, or whatever it maybe!

Thank you!

Wilson

Hope you will get a response soon from other expats :)

yes most definitely! it seems that riyadh has an international racing circuit, so at least the brings me a bit of comfort.

I've heard that obtaining a vehicle in Saudi is generally expensive, and public transportation is not the greatest. So what exactly is the best way around town?

Wilson

I went there before. The Reem International Circuit  is a motorsports venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, located 76 kilometres (47 mi) west of the city on Hejaz road Exit 11. GPS Coordinates (24.381968,45.979142)

Freshlikesushi

are you on zilvia?

i drift a v8 miata in florida (well now south carolina)

I did alot of bicycle riding in jeddah, ordered one from Evans cycles

wilson_derry - Thank you for the info and coordinates! Hopefully I will find a way to get there during my contracted stay =/. Definitely using a GPS will help me get around.

Freshlikesushi - I'm on zilvia yes, but I haven't been on there in a while, I usually just see if they have good wheels for sale. Speaking of V8s, me and my friend just dropped a ls1 camaro ss motor in his FD as a way to send him off in moving to frisco, that chassis is amazing, I can only imagine how great the s14 chassis is in performance!

I used to go drifting 7 years ago when club4ag was pioneering the drift days, I also did sessions with Justdrift/Vegas drift and a few others. Now a days, there seems to be this "hella flush" movement I'm not really fond of. I guess I'm just getting old. =/

Freshlikesushi

I did all my drifting in japan for 5 year or so from 2004/5 so i skipped the whole US drift scene.  I just do it for fun now. FD got dumb

2lo2slo

I'd like to go back to drifting myself, but just like you said, as a form of leisure, if anything just go back to regular auto-x on the weekends. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the car scene in Riyadh. Seems like they have redbull car park drifting, and a few known autoshows in town.

i looked into shipping my car over, but it just isnt feesable IMO. plus finding the parts when i break would suck.

2lo2slo

I was planning to do the same, but still contemplating If I'm really going to benefit from it. Just curious on how hard the process would be and how much would it cost from the companies you were quoted from?

Freshlikesushi

Process is t hard. Saudi is pretty lenient

But its4-6k in shipping. You can get a used whatever for thar much in country

2lo2slo

Oh my, that is quite heavy. Maybe bicycling isn't such a bad idea ;) lol.  Im pretty curious about the tuning shops there, I'd definitely like to take a peak on what they're up to in Riyadh as opposed to what I'm used to seeing here in the States.

Freshlikesushi

states is more innovative. they do more ricer stuff here.

When are you gonna be over there? Ill arrive in june, we can meet up and cause havoc

2lo2slo

Oh yah ricer? eeessh... well we just got to blend in, ain't too hard, just get a used car, cut the springs, straight pipe, and weld the diff heh (assuming its rwd), or is that innovative already? lol jk.

I'm waiting on my iqama and contract, hopefully end of may, if not early june also! If we could only find a way a cheaper way to ship our cars over there, we'd definitely cause havoc! heh.

Any car guys and ladies feel free to chime in!

Freshlikesushi

we will show up about the same time.

I have a friend in Dubai building cars, gonna see if he cant help me find something stupid to play with.
I want a Lumina honestly. LS powered, RWD, 6 speed. would be perfect to slide

2lo2slo

Wow I wish they would bring that here in the States. It seems that its also a SS model, It'd be harder to obtain a model like that used I assume.  How much do those run converted to U.S. Dollars?

Freshlikesushi

its just a g6 lol

advantage of saudi, is thy have the older versions that the rest of the world gets (basically a holden comadore iirc)

2lo2slo

heh thought it was the g8,

You know the U.S. gets the shorter end of the stick when it comes to styling, and everything else =D.

Freshlikesushi

you are right
g8, i mis spoke.

I want a damn Holden Maloo. best elcamino replacement ever

2lo2slo

Yah maloos look real good, thatd definitely sell out here in the States if they ever brought it here.

Seems like the Reem International Circuit has some go karting events too, I can definitely do that for a past time!  =).

Freshlikesushi
