We've recently relocated to Shanghai, China (Xuhui District - Old French Concessions) from USA with our super chilled out 3.5 year old Saluki mix breed.  I'm thinking of starting a small doggie play group in my home, I'll throw in cookies too!   Would anyone (with friendly dogs) be interested?

Hello!

Your idea of a doggie club is really nice.
I suggest you to post this idea in the following websites to gather more people:

http://enjoyshanghai.com/buy-sell/pets/http://www.shanghaistuff.com/group/anim … inshanghai

Also you can contact several animal rescue groups to see if they can post your idea in their websites and blogs. Some of the groups are the following:

Shanghai Small Animal Protection Association (SSAPA): http://www.ssapa.org.cn/
SSAPA is a branch of the Shanghai Veterinary Medical Association, and it is the only animal welfare related NGO in Shanghai approved by the city government (registered in the year 2003 under license number 37).

Thank you so much for your response and suggestions.  I'll definitely look into the websites you've suggested.  I was also thinking of volunteering at the SSAPA to maybe get to know other dog owners.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Shanghai Small Animal Protection Association (SSAPA) is a non-profit pet organization in Shanghai that has placed more than 600 pets with adoptees. All adoptable cats and dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and de-wormed to make sure they are in healthy conditions. Sadly, they are the few lucky ones rescued out of the thousands abandoned by their owners each year.

Please come to see many of them at this monthly pet adoption event!!! You can help SSAPA to make a difference by giving them a permanent caring home ... enjoying immeasurable amount of love in return!

I have a dog that could use some socialising, send me a pm may be we live next to each other :)

If you are looking for some green space where you can let run your dog free, I have the following recommendations:

Paradise Kennel which is in Songjiang. They have a patch of grass with a fence and there you can let your dog run (for free as far as I remember). paradisekennel.com.cn/hotel.asp

Then there is this sculpture park in Sheshan. But you will have to pay an entry fee for you (I think it's around 120 rmb) and your dog (30 kuai) and you will have to show your dog license. yuehussp.com/index/index.htm

I think buddydog buddydog.net/index.html (it's a kennel and also dog training facility) is offering some kind of dog play group on their premises as well. (no idea if it's for free though!)

If you live near Huashan Park. It's an "open" park so not walled in with a guard watching who enters. A lot of people let their dogs run there. But it's really TINY with a busy road next to it.

A while ago there was a useful article on the net featuring restaurants and cafes where you can bring along your dog. Pooch pubs article

If you are interested in meeting other dog lovers and want to exchange experiences about keeping dogs in Shanghai , Jaiya's Animal Rescue is having an animal adoption day this coming Sunday (13th May) at the Cool Docks from 11am - 3pm.
Cheers
:)

Hello Nathalie

For sure there is people who loves dogs in Ningbo. Maybe a Chinese friend of yours can check in Weibo for people (or groups) with similar interests in Ningbo.

Another option can be to contact [b]Zhejiang Small Animal Protection Association (ZJSAPA):zjsapa.org/ ... maybe they know about animal groups in Ningbo.

Best regards!
