Looking for a volunteer placement in Mauritius

Hello,
My name is Nina and I've just registered on this website.
I'll be on sabbatical leave from my current work (online marketing for an airline) for 6 months as of 1 Oct and I'm trying to find a volunteer placement in Mauritius. Any advise is welcome.  :)
I'm looking to stay 3-6 months to begin with.

In the end, my aim is to find a job, to be able to apply for a work permit. I've been told that it's better to do this before coming to Mauritius, that it's more difficult to look for a job on the spot. But at the same time, it seems better to be close in case of interviews etc - any advise on this?

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards, Nina

Julien

Welcome on Expat.com Nina,

what kind of job are you looking for?

(please note that the work permit is now obsolete, you'll have to register as professional to get your occupation permit)

Did you have a look to the work in Mauritius guide?

Hope this helps,

Julien

Hello,
Thanks for welcoming me and thanks for replying! Yes, I've already had a look at that part of the website; useful info.

My area of expertise is digital marketing within the travel industry, so a placement within tourism (travel agency, hotel, other tourism business) is my initial aim. On the other hand, trying marketing within another sector would be very interesting too, since it will broaden my work experience.

I'll continue my search and also hope for more replies and advise on this forum.

Kind Regards, Nina

I will be in Mauritius in Oct working as a General Manager for a tourism company. Once there ,I will see what I can do to help you. A lot of people from this forum have helped me relocate to Mauritius and I want to do the same for others.

All the best to you

Terence
