Should I forget Manta and concentrate on Cuenca?

Eddie54

I saw a few youtube videos on Manta and it looked like a cool place to settle down.  However, I noticed that most posters here are focused primarily on Cuence and also Salinas.  Is there something I don't know.  Is Manta a bad place?  Please let me know.  Thanks.

Hello Eddie,

I depends in what're you looking for.

If you like the beach, small towns and hot weather, then the coast is for you.

If you looking for a beautiful medium size city, full of history and culture, colder than the coast, then Cuenca is the place.

P.D. I love you photo

Thanks, Vinny.  I think I'm attracted to the coast from all those times my parents took me to the Jersey shore when I was a kid.  Glad you like the photo.  That's my Buster Keaton hat.  I'm a big fan of his.

The only way to know for sure is to check out each and decide for yourself. They both have pros and cons as do places everywhere and as has been said, it depends on what you're looking for.

No one is quite like you! So no one is going to have an answer that will really be what you are looking for. Just as Vinny said, you will need to go and evaluate for yourself. Here are some things to consider.

1. Ecuador is nothing like what you're used to in the U.S.
2. Trying to compare a 3rd World country to an industrialized nation like the U.S. won't compute.
3. The culture is different, the food is different, the weather and hours of daylight are different. In fact, everything is different.
4. Lastly, the only way to really know is to spend at least 60 days here before making a decision. Once you get past the "tourist" mentality you will begin to see things more realistically.
