Where does your partner/husband/wife/lover/mate/darling come from ?

Post new topic

Tôm Càng

Hi everyone,

This poll seems confused but the truth is, it's kinda simple but needs explanation cause there are 3 variables:

1-2) same nationality/same as country: (A) your dumpling stayed at home and you went abroad and (B) hey ! I assumed you were an expat...

3-4) same nationality/different from country: your love and you are from the same country but you both live abroad. Two choices : (A) you live in the same country, (B) he/she lives in another country.

5) different nationality/same as country: your honey is from the country she's presently living in (even if you live in a different one)

6-7) different nationality/different from country: your darling is from another nationality and is also a foreigner in the country he/she lives in. Again: (A) you both live in the same country and (B) you live in different countries

8) different planet: you suspect your treasure is actually an undercover alien

To settle further complications:

Rule 1: if you have multiple partners, please pick only one (we don't wanna know ;))
Rule 2: if one of you have multiple nationalities, pick the relevent one (preferably first nationality)
Rule 3: for mixed blood and immigrants with one nationality (that changed along the way), see rule 2
Rule 4 (new!): if you're not an expat, you're not supposed to answer ;)

For example, my little squirrel and I are both French and of mixed blood, living in Vietnam so it's 3)

Let's see, did I forget something?

Take Care,

TC

becca.steel

Well I'm British and my partner is Polish. We both live in Poland.

Category 5 right?

:)

Olivier de Montréal

We both are French and live in Canada.
I'm too confused to toggle anything. ;)

Tôm Càng

Becca,

You're right. Maybe I should edit the post to make it look... clearer. Because Olivier is confused when he shouldn't be ;).
It's 3) Olivier : same nationality, living together in a different country. You didn't even get to the example

crashlyon

the same for me : both french living in Sweden...which category are we ???

Tôm Càng

I tried to put it that way: your partner's nationality vs your own nationality and then vs the country you live in.

So to give an example for every category :

1) I'm French, same for my wife but she stayed in France and I work in UK
2) I'm French, so is my wife and we life in France OR she went abroad without me (gotcha ! in both case, you're not an expat)
3) We are French and we live together in another country
4) We are French, I live in Uk and she lives in Spain
5) I'm French, I live in Uk and my wife is English
6) I'm French, my wife is English and we live in Spain
7) I'm French and I live in Canada, my wife is Spanish and she lives in Australie (obviously we don't meet that much...)
8) I'm from Mars and my wife is from Venus (apparently it's common I was told...)

So for Crashlyon it's gonna be Cat. 3) (the same as me : both French living in Vietnam).

It seems that the French are moving by pair...
But that could lead to another question : did you meet in your home country or abroad?

That's for another poll I guess. This one is complicated enough ;) Sorry...

dmscvan

I think you've missed a couple. How about, I'm from country X, but live in country Y. My partner is from country V and lives in country V.

Or, I'm from country X, but live in country Y. My partner is from country V and lives in country X.

(Two more where you both live in different countries).

Shame on me! Indeed you're right dmscvan, I forgot the possibility that you left your bunny behind you as you move to another place... In that case, I'll try to fix it in the 8). I'm gonna check if it's possible...There's a limit of eight options anyway :(
[later] it's apparently not possible, so I fixed it differently: it's 5) even if you live separated (and yeah I know, it sucks... cause it's a frequent case I missed here, mea maxima culpa)

dmscvan wrote:

In this case, I think it's 7): both from different countries, both expats and living apart.

But I miss another one: I'm from X and live in X with my wife from V. But I'm alright 'cause here, the non-expat rule applies ;)

Thanks for pointing this out!

This poll is really confusing! ;)

Guesposter58

My head hurts ;)

For the record. I'm British. Wife is Japanese. Used to live in UK.
Now live in Japan.
Will probably move back to UK at some stage in the future.

Tôm Càng

Gavin, Olivier, Crashlyon,

Anyway sorry guys for giving you headaches!  I'd my share trying to figure this one out...
There are so many combinations, it's a nightmare !
This is no more a forum but a math class

Do you think we should revert to a simple question like: what's your partner nationality vs your nationality ?
A) Same
B) Different
C) No partner
D) None of your business!

Gavin, it's 5) but I guess you already figured that out, right?

Trouble

Should I bring up that my partner and I are both from the same country, but his nationality is different from mine because of an accident of birth?

(That is, we are both from Canada, but he is Dutch - with a dutch passport and boy is it purty!  And now we're both in the UK.  And not hiding from the law.  Really.  Really!)

Aureliv

Well I think I'm in category 5.
French, living in Norway with a norwegian, am I right ? :)

Tôm Càng

Aurélie,

;) Indeed you are, merci d'avoir pris le temps de répondre au sondage !

Aureliv

You're welcome :)

blackpurl

Since you asked about nationality and not race I can say we are both Americans and we both live here in Russia.  If you need to know the other stuff I am black and he is white... I used to say I was African American until I met people who were African and they laughed when I said it!

CountCaffeine

Hmm,  Well I am an American living in Italy and my darling is a Russian living in Israel.   Where do I fall?

:) n°7 ;)

Gryphon

Well, I'm half French half German & me better half is half French half Mexican. No problem for us, we meet on the French half and consider the other half as our dark side, and we're living in the country of me better half's dark half. So what's our bloody category, considering a dark half does not equal a non relevent half (as you suggested in rule 2)??

Tôm Càng

Gryphon,

I would say 5 since your better half's dark half is Mexican. And your dark half is not.
BUT
could be 3 if your better half considers she's more bright side than dark side.

It's a matter of choice really...but don't underestimate the power of the dark side.

Pas mal celle-là

Jo Ann

Quand je trouverai un mari, je vous ferai signe. :D

awa@lecce

I'm French and I met my Italian boyfriend in Ireland, and lived there for a while. We are now living in Italy.
I believe our situation was number 6 and it changed to number 5 today.

And to answer to the next question:
B) and A) - that's what makes the spices within the couple.
(1 man + 1 woman)x 2 nationalities = EXPLOSIVE ;D

Flower

German met now Hubby who is British in The Bahamas were we still both live

Jo Ann

Now, someone must do a poll about the fact significant others are from somewhere else. Besides destiny/fate/luck (and love too, yeah), that is. For example I know some people who desperately want to get married with someone from overseas, or at least not with the same nationality... or others that find that the kids' culture would be definitely improved if the parents are from different countries, and so on...

:P Me? Nah, I'm too lazy! :D

beurredemani

So just to add a category :-)

I'm french. I met my - now - Swiss husband in Montreal, Canada.
We spent 5 years in Santiago, Chile.
Since 3 months with our chilean kid, we leave in Grenoble, France.
Sorry but not so clear at which category I'm in ?

Kicou

I'm Vietnamese-French, wife is Laotian-French, we became Canadian citizens today. Kids are Viet-Lao-French-Canadians...

Sinbad

I'm from Yorkshire (shamefully unrecognised as an independent nation), my wife is from England, we met in Kuwait and got married there but now we're living in Saudi. I closed my eyes, stuck my finger on the screen and picked 3.

LindsayBean

Category 5...I hope i did this right ;-)

And American and an Aussie living in Ireland.

Mapiki

I'm French living in France, with an American sweetheart living in the US now and moving to France in the next months. 5 then?

Guesposter58

I am Chinese-Indonesian and my boyfriend is a Dane :)

frankcoleman

Didn't you know men from venus women are from mars? ;) Seriously my wife is from the country we now live in but her parents are from another country and I am from a completely separate country all together! Confused? Me too lol

mitch

me: Irish
Partner: Kiwi
Met: Australia
Live: Currently St; Lucia
Children: 2 born aussie 2  born Irish
Citizenships held: Irish, Australian, New Zealand.  (haven't had to relinquish any yet)
What category do we fit into in your poll ??????????????  :-)

Fleur de lotus

1 french and 1 belgian together in Vietnam...

LondonBound

Im american, my wife is german. We are living in the USA until june...then we are moving to germany.

Kro

Well, I'm french living in Switzerland and my Bf is German living in Brussels, so I've chosen case 7, I guess.
Interesting topic, but the question is quite complicated the way you ask it ;)

suzerz

I'm American and my partner is Australian.  We met in England and are moving to New Zealand for a year in 2 months---confused?

sallycat

Sorry
I couldn't work out how I should repond. I'm British and my husband in Japanes. we are both living in Japan. What number??

Deedee

I guess we're a 6 - He's Danish, I'm Filipina and we're currently posted in Nicaragua. But then again, we're also an 8 as he thinks I'm from Venus (or in extreme situations a galaxy far, far away) and I think he's from Mars - or farther :)

Ish

OK... I'm Brit and my hubby was born in Iran is a Dutch national and lives with me in China... I think I worked it out to be 6/7 though not too sure anymore I seem to have confused myself now.

Tôm Càng

Sallycat: 5 as your hubby is Japanese and you live in Japan.

Ish: I guess 6 would be quite right, 7 would be only in case you both lived apart in different countries.

Sorry for the headache caused by this one ;)
