Has anyone calculated the difference between the cost of ownership of a vehicle and that of long-leasing?

As in buying a car in Malta or shipping an existing one over? For me, I found bringing mine from UK and insuring it was cheaper than hiring one for a year, even with hire rates of €13-14 a day.
