Hey All,

Coming down to explore possibilities in 2 week. Retirement is here and I am a little fed up with the course of American politics. I'm looking for some reasonable places to stay in Corozal and San Perdo. I'd rather watch the wildlife above or below the water surface..... don't need casinos..... and will probably be going to bed when the sun goes down unless I can find a band that wants a 60's drummer! Looking at housing rentals and a garage would be great. I am a hands on,boat mechanic, carpenter, electrician etc. Won't want a job but I will want to keep busy. Volunteering doesn't hurt!:)

Would love some suggestions for rooming, diving, and fishing. Certainly don't mind buying dinner for some information. Thanks in advance!!!!

Bob, Gwyn at the Seabreeze Hotel offers clean, comfortable and reasonably priced rooms ($35 usd) on the Bay.  There's fishing there, but no diving or snorkeling, as visibility is awful.

In San Pedro, Tio Pil's on the beach is a great value ($60 usd); or heading South, Pedro's ($50 usd)-no beach but a pool and onsite bar. There's several reputable dive companies on the island - I'd wait until you're there to get some referrals, and also to negotiate a better rate.

BTW, you cannot volunteer in Belize until you have your Permanent Residency - just an fyi. Sharon Hiebing

Hey Sharon,

Thanks for the help!!!!! I'll try to book a week at each this morning. Trip is coming up quick. It's funny, I kind of planned going down in the summer to find out how hot it can actually be and here I am in CT and it's 80 degrees at 7 in the morning!:(

If Belize is as great as I hear, I may be "volunteering" very soon. Anyway, if you run into a short, fat, ugly gringo later in the month make him buy you lunch!!!

Wealthships

Ha-ha, well I'm not in the areas you are visiting, but thank you anyway for the offer. It's my pleasure to recommend those places to you because I've personally stayed at both and really like the owners. In Belize, we usually don't hit 80 degrees until at least 9 am :) Have fun!!

Pedro's first week and Gwyn offered to swap lies for the second!! I'm all set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a bunch!

If you want to know more about volunteering here I can totally help you get set up. There is a poker run happening sat night that is always a fun time. 25 bzd to enter, starts at roadkill and ends at Pedro's, one card per bar and the winning hand from 2 of you cards and 3 from the flop [I think]takes the pot.

Great way to meet people.

I will certainly find my way to Roadkill! Sounds like my kind of place anyway......... and when I get to Pedro's I can fall over in my room!!!! 3 drinks and I'll be gone. Waaaaay out of practice!:)Thanks much for the heads up.If you find me down there feel free to make me buy dinner............ course the question might drive you crazy!
