Using Internet To Make Overseas Calls

Post new topic

Hello All

Would someone please advise as to the using of Internet to make calls home from Oman.
At the moment I use a Mobile Dialer on my Nokia and a softphone on my laptop with my Internet connection (WiFi or Wireless broadband) provided from expatcall. com and it says it works in any country.
My question is, am I allowed to use it when I come to Oman?

Thanks

Best advice?  Before you come, install something like Hot Spot Shield.  Then download and install Skype and fill up your account, with automatic recharge.  Phoning home is then free (Skype to Skype routed through the proxy) or very cheap (computer to house phone) or fairly cheap (computer to mobile in eg UK).  Without the shield, most computer to phone applications are blocked.

Hello

Well we have arrived and pretty much settled in.

For an up-date I can confirm that the 'phone' account I have brought with me (see my original post) does work over here in Oman without the use of a HotSpot shield (what ever that is).

I can use my PC or Mobile for those 'specially' priced calls so long as I have an Interent connection.

All the best.
