Why would you care about what he thinks? UK is fine.

britgirly

I just find it funny to say others 'imitate' the US :p

Freshlikesushi

this is a rather interesting thread at this point

hutkgjf

I wouldn't say it's funny but i think it's more of a brainwashing by the damn media.

By imitators, I don't think he was saying the rest copy but, rather, the rest don't measure up.

Bear in mind it wasn't an American who said this.  For myself, I know the pluses and the minuses in my country.

britgirly

Most likely, but it was more of a passing amusement than me having an issue :)
I have only met nice Americans so I suppose so far he has a point lol

sam_ruh

greetings , i did n,t think this will irritate Europeans since they represent the core of america
and thanks Alliecat , i meant copy since americans usually are the first in many ways
for those who can,t digest it drink texas style ( Ice-Tea ) and you will under stand

britgirly

Wat.
I'm not annoyed I was joking, as historically Americans are Europeans.

No tears now, only dreams.

Freshlikesushi

Europeans represent America generation ago.

Not now.

hutkgjf

That's because of a thing called Stereotypes.

When I read the title of this thread only one thing comes to my mind:

"I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind"

...I know, right?

Thanks for sharing the inspirational song from Don Williams. It reminded me of another great tune by Happy Kyne (only it's a disco classic). To me, this represents what America once was and perhaps could yet be again:

If humans evolved from monkeys, why do monkeys still exist?

If evolution is real, why aren't monkeys still
evolving into humans today?

Oxford evolutionary biologist, Dr. Richard Dawkins, explains our development more elegantly than I can:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClordvJWwPs and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLyAnFpNCNs and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh0F4FBLJRE

By the way, evolution is an indistinguishably slow and continuous process, as he illustrates here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4ClZROoyNM

You might also like some of Dr. Dawkins' many books on the subject.  (I am currently 20% through his recent book, The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution.) They are very well-written and immensely interesting.  We are lucky to have this intelligent and tireless man among us as a contemporary!

Cheers, and enjoy!

American here in saudi are rare and they dont really want to communicate with ppl its just how they are even in their own country work home home work lol im not saying all of them but a lot of them are i use to work with a lot of them for military and only one or two of them like to hangout with saudis and they were irish ! others are not really interested idk maybe its for security reasons im not sure !

Freshlikesushi

I don't mind hanging out with Saudi's.  i have about a dozen good Saudi friends. But they were all educated outside of Saudi, they don't drop everthing they do for prayer, comprehend English, and aren't brainwashed like many natives are.

If i can relate to you, and can hold an intelligent conversation Im more than happy to hang out.  i just have no desire to struggle to communicate anymore.

My experience has been that while I have many Saudi work friends, they are just that:  work friends.  They are too busy with family obligations and extended family to have time to hang out.  Somebody also suggested to me that their families might not encourage/might be threatened by outside friendships and this is certainly a possibility.

You have to remember this, you in USA and me in KSA:  when we come to a new country, we have all kinds of free time and are open/available for new friendships and ways to fill our time.  However, the nationals have *established* lives, lots of family, many friends and activities and so no time for new friends.

Now maybe it's easier for the expat men here to be friends with Saudi guys, but for women it's very difficult (at least in my experience).
