In that case, the only thing that may possibly help would be for your wife to return to Pakistan and go to the embassy with you.

@James This is a late reply, but permanent residency is done in two stages: first a VITEM visa to join immediate family; it require a bit of paperwork but is generally processed the same day you go for your interview at the Consulate. Once in Brazil with that Visa you go to the Policia Federal with your VITEM and the same documents you used at the Consulate and they'll process your permanent residence. That take between 6 weeks and 6 months, but can take more in larger cities.

James passed away in 2016, and I think that the remaining posters in this very old thread are long gone.

Is this merry - like "ho ho ho" or the other word that gold-diggers always use to get hold of your passport status and assets?

I would suggest meeting and getting to know first before.  Even Santa knows who has been naughty or who has been nice....

The cruel reality is that the best ones always go first.  I did not know @James
but his posts were always very insightful and encouraging.  @abthree has always brought sanity to any discussions on the site and I am glad to see that he has taken the Brazil mantle from @james and @texas2brazil.

I shall endeavor to live up to the spirit of those 2 that I had the privilege of reading about and benefiting from their wisdom.

PS:  @abthree, I am hoping that you stay with us for a long time....  Just stating in a round-about way that you are an inspiration to so many....

@abthree I agree!  You are awesome.  Sometimes I feel like writing a snarky remark but then I read your kind and thoughtful answers.......  Thanks for all the time you put in to helping all of us on this site.

Thank you so much!  I love this country, and appreciate the chance to share that.   I spend a lot of time worrying about my misses -- it's nice to hear that sometimes I manage to score, too. 😂

I'm happy for you that you've begun to think about going home, but I'll miss you:   you're a warm, sensitive contributor to this community.
