Getting a VAT Number?

Hi all,

I refer people to an estate agent that I use and have always loved and if my referral signs through them I get a small fee in return. We're not talking big money here but they're asking that I be able to provide VAT receipts for their finance department.

Any idea how I go about registering for a VAT number in Malta and whether this is going to involve costs or fees? We're talking maybe 50 euro every few months so I don't really want to end up paying fees on that small amount.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Registering for a VAT number is free of charge (VAT Dept. in Birkirkara) and if you register e.g. part-time and your annual turnover is below 14k you should apply for VAT exemption in the registration form.

see here

And for all other "commercial" matters (and there are a lot of "exemptions" ;)) it's better to ask a tax advisor.
