Hello Forum

I am due a baby this April, my first. Myself and my husband are quite new to Mauritius, just 3 months and we do not have many friends yet. I am wondering does anyone know of any mother and baby groups that are meeting? I would love to make some "mother friends" to socialize with before/after baby comes. So as not to be stuck in the house all day with new baby!

If there are no groups out there, I would be interested in starting an Expat.com "mother and baby group"!?

I live in the South but can travel if there are any interested mommies..and Dads!

Thanks!

Hi there

I have a little 2 year old and am pregnant and due early June - Would love to hook up and join, just let me know when and where as I am very flexible at the moment and I have transport.  We from South Africa (CT) but have not lived there for 10 years, we have come from Dubai.  We are living now in Black Rock Tamarin.

Hope all goes well with the baby!! Let me know if you need anything as I know the first baby is difficult and scary and expecially since you are here on your own without your family!!

Irish Beach girl

Hi!

Thanks for your reply, hope we get a few more takers to make a group. I was given the details of a South African woman living down my way (South) but I think she is just at the end of her pregnancy and not on email so much, she also has a two year old girl. I am hoping she will make contact after a while so we will have at least three and a South African for you to meet.

Yes it is a bit daunting not having family around but I am looking forward to having a baby here as it is a lovely environment, but as you well know, you need a few girl friends too to make it perfect!

Will keep you posted, it could take a few weeks.
I have met one woman in the North she has a few friends with babies/toddlers that meet up each month. When I hear from her too I will contact you and maybe we could go.

take care

Hi Ladies,
i moved here last september with 10yr old bot and 22month girl. i would love to meet other mums too and let the little ones have a play. Its a shame they don't have baby or toddler groups here.

We are from Uk and miss friends very much. so keep in touch and we should soon make arrangements for a meeting, by the way in in Rose Hill

take care

HI there Shaheen
I have a 2 year old little girl and would be keen to hook up with a play date anytime.  We could make it a regular weekly event or a once off, which ever you prefer.  Private message me with your details and we can take it from there.

Irish Beach girl

Hi Ladies

Yes count me in too. I have no baby yet but will in April/May. We could find a mid way spot for all of us or take turns in each others houses and hopefully build a group from there.

There are many baby groups in the North but not so many in the South, West and Central..so we'll have to change that!

Have a good week

Kate in Mauritius

Hello,

Just want to wish you the best of luck with the birth of your baby and getting together a group of mums (and mums-to-be) and babies.

My husband (Irish) and I (Australian) currently have the possibility of moving to Mauritius in September and we will have a newborn in tow so I would very much welcome the opportunity to join a group like yours.

All the best,
Kate

Irish Beach girl

Hi Kate

You would be very welcome if we do get the group up and running. If not a friendly mum in the South at least!

Best of luck with your move and if you do need any advice please do contact me. We have got great advice from lovely people since moving here.

Take care

Hi,

I just came across this thread in researching baby groups in Mauritius. I'm an American married to an Irishman and living in Dublin for the past 3 years. We're moving to Mauritius in April.
I have a girl who just turned 2 and a 4 month old boy. I would love to meet up with other mums and babies. We will be living in Tamarin. I've never even been to Mauritius!

Please post if you do start a group.

Thanks and good luck!

bronindubai

Hello!  I am not sure if anyone is still checking this forum or not.  I am a Canadian expat with a young baby and I live near Blue Bay in the south.  I am hoping to meet other expats with children/babies/expecting mothers.  Has a group been set up yet?  I would love to meet with others who would like to meet up and socialise their children!  If any of you who have posted here are interested, please contact me, thanks!

shaheen109

Ok Ladies, we really need to set a date for the meet up. During school hours are good for me, maybe mid morning.
Hope to hear from you soon

Van123

Why don't we organise a meeting at Blue Bay or something?

Irish Beach girl

Hello Ladies

Yes I think it's time we organiszed a meet up now that there are a few of us interested.

It seems we are coming from

Tamarin
South Blue Bay/Pointe Dénsy
Rosehill
flic en Flac

What about meeting somewhere in the middle like Curipipe? I only know a few places there. Other wise in either Tamarin or The South. I am happy to host a meet up too. I live in Pointe D'esny.

any ideas welcome

Veruska

Hello ladies,

What about meeting in Floreal Square for a coffee??;)

Van123

With babies? Can do lunch time, around 1.30, or 2.30 to 3?

Veruska

Hi, I prefer mid morning for a start.:)

Without kids at first for me ;)

Any more suggestions?

Biggy

Hi there ladies!

I'm definitely interested in joining your group meet ups. Reckon it'd be great as I have only been in the country for about 2 months. We have come from London but I'm Malaysian and my hubby is South African. I am only 13 weeks pregnant, due in September. By the way, this is our first.

I live in Flic En Flac. I don't have a car at the moment but we are in the process of getting me one and it looks like it might take max 2 weeks. So I'd only be able to join you all then. Please do keep me informed :)

maple1

Hi everyone!

I was going to suggest Blue Bay and then I saw all these new posts!  If we all want to meet up, then Curepipe/Floreal Square would work.  Anytime after 9:30am would be OK for me...

But if this doesn't work for the others in the Blue Bay area, we could also meet up in Blue Bay sometime soon...

Irish Beach girl

Hi!

Flooreal square sounds a good suggestion, it's spacious and a small play area for kids if needed.

Seems we will struggle to match up a time though. If we could settle on a day,  and if enough were interested, then maybe we could make this a weekly/twice a month thing that we could let the cafe know about to keep a table or two for us.

Weekdays obviously and I am thinking mid morning to lunch as most of us will have to travel about 45mins to an hour.

There more the merrier! Kids, babies, moms to be or just new expat ladies wanting to meet other women.

Veruska

Hello Im glad you agree for Floreal Square....:)

There is a small garden and for sure we can talk to the owner  of the bar...she's very kind!!

Shall we make it on Monday 22 march at 10.30?????

Have a lovely day all of you;)

Biggy

Hi again,

Not quite sure where the cafe your talking about is. I may (if lucky) get my car by then. Hopefully I can come. Anytime/ weekday is good for me except Tuesdays (for now).

:)

Veruska

Hi Biggy,

The cafe is just inside Floreal Square , its a small cosy shopping centre in Floreal.

Good if u can get ur car by then otherwise we can see and organise a pick up point for u no problem.

So date place and time is ok? Cheers Veruska

shaheen109

Hi all,

Floreal Square is good for me and the 22nd is good for me too. So count me in, can we confirm the time please, i'm quite flexible.

see you all soon

Biggy

Hi Veruska,

Ah ok cool re venue.

Awww thanks re pick up point. Thats so sweet, would love that :) Either that or I'll get my hubby to drop me off before his work.

As for date, place and time (10:30 am?), all good to me.

Irish Beach girl

Hi
That date is also good for me, if anyone needs a lift from the South I can drive no problem

Or if anyone needs directions to Floreal Sq just let me know too

any more takers?!?!

Hi Ladies

So we have 3 so far, not a bad start. I know there are another two mum's down near me in the South who are interested in future meet ups, they just can't make it this time.

So if there are any others that can't make it this time please do keep in contact so we can keep this thing going. It would be really great to have a regular, mum's/ladies meet up..we all need a bit of a gossip and advice, especially when so far from home and other girl friends!

Have a good weekend

Biggy

Hi all,

I won't be able to make it this time either due to transport issues. But reckon that'll be resolved by end of the month.

Irish Beach girl: could you give me directions to Floreal Sq please just for future as I've never been there before. Also, what's the name of the cafe you all are meeting at?

Thanks heaps

Irish Beach girl

Hi Biggy
No problem we will see you next time.

I can'[t remember the name of the cafe, but there's only one and it's inside in the courtyard at the end of a row of shops.

I will explain the directions here in case anyone else needs them. Maps of Mauritius are very hard to come by so be warned finding a new place takes that extra 20 mins of so!

I will explain from Curipipe_ if others want to add directions from the east please do, as I come from the South via the high way.

DIRECTIONS:  from the highway, South bound
-from the high way take the Curipipe round-about (the one with Shell petrol station)about 4 roundabouts after Trinion/shoprite

-Drive more or less in a straight line towards Curipipe, pass the stadium on your left, two small round abouts (straight through) pass the bus depot on your left.

-continue straight through two sets of traffic lights, for about 2 kms, road starts going down hill slightly

-you will come to a shell petrol station on your left, at a cross roads with traffic lights.

-take this left at petrol station and then immediate right, you will see Floreal Square just ahead on the right.

hope this helps for next time, good luck with finding a car!:)

Veruska
