Has anyone recently purchased a VIP pass? I heard that there is a waiting list for them and wondered if anyone had successfully attained one in the last 6 months.

From whst I have heard they aren't worth buying. You still get caught in the queue snd save about 15 minutes maximum once you get to the lane. Haven't used the lane myself but am only saying what I have heard from others.  Expensive too

I agree with Jo's comment. A friend of mine works for the British Air Forces in Khobar and he was always complaining how useless the VIP lane is most of the time. He said there have been days where he was able to save 15 minutes or so, but most of the time it's pretty much the same.

Having said that, if you are commuting to and from Saudi every day, even if you save 15 minutes every day, this would make about an hour a week and about 4 hours a month and about 50 hours a year. So, multiply the cost of the VIP lane over a year and see if your up-to 50 hours saving is worth that amount.
