Hello everyone!

In December this year, I will be traveling to Europe. As this year is my last year in secondary school, my parents are giving me the opportunity to travel. I have decided to travel to Europe, either to Germany or to England. I am a Malaysian and I have turned 17 this year.

I have hesitations -- I've received many feedbacks from many people that I've consulted about traveling to Europe in December. So far, most people told me not to travel to European countries in December, because it is cold and the weather is unpleasant during that month. Would it be better if I go in late January?

Cheers!

December/ January not much difference.  This year has been really bad with freezing winter weather right through to Easter.  But at the same time last year we had a heat wave and were in our t-shirts at easter.

The biggest difference is the day length.  There is only about 8 hours of daylight in the UK in December but it starts getting more in Jan and it is 12 hours in March.  December however has the benefit of the Christmas celebrations and markets.  But hotels and restaurants are very expensive.  January on the other hand is cheap with sales in the shops and lots of deals in restaurants and other places.

Hi there, in order to experience the X-Mas celebrations, I personally would receommend going in December. It is definitely cold in winter for you, as you are probably used to a different climate anyway. Make sure to get a good warm and practical winter jacket when coming to Germany.

Another tip for Germany is footwear.  I used to travel there a lot on business.  Solid, flat footwear is recommended in winter.  In Munich they let the snow compact down and put a thick layer of coarse grit on top.  This makes the paths safe but is murder on the feet if your shoes don't have thick soles.  I used to take my after ski boots and change into posh shoes indoors.  My German colleagues took a similar approach
