Hi,

I am a corporate lawyer based out of New Delhi, India. I am planning to explore opportunities in Muscat and require some salary advice. For a professional with 8 years experience, what do you reckon should be a good salary with saving potential? Please consider the following while answering.

I have a good standard of living in Delhi (I'd say upper middle class) and intend to maintain that. I also like to indulge in food, clothes etc. once in a while.

I plan to take up a 2bhk apartment at a decent neighbourhood. Is fully furnished accomodation available? What should be the monthly rental?

I plan to get a car (any ideas on how to go about that and the cost?).

I will be shifting with my wife, just the two of us.

Obviously there would be other fixed expenses for an expat living in Muscat. Can anyone give an idea of these?

What should I negotiate with the employer to put on the table?

If any specific salary advice related to my profession is forthcoming, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Cheers

IR

You would need an all inclusive salary of 2500 rials for a basic upper middle class life. U wild need tTo update and brush up latest corporate laws in middle east, may be a bit different from Indian laws like retrospective tax laws etc. do u have a top of the line Law University stamp on you ? It matters.

Thanks for your reply, Srini.  I have graduated from a reputed Indian university. I realise that the laws would be very different in the Middle East, however, I also understand that most companies/law firms are willing to take on foreign attorneys and permit them to learn on the job.

Would you be able to give me an idea of the housing, car, other expenditure as described in my earlier message. Also, under Omani labor laws, what are the benefits that an employer is required to provide an employee?

Much appreciated
