17 days left before i arrive and i'm thinking: can one drink tap water or do i have to buy bottled water? i will also be grateful if sb gives me prices examples of detergents, shampoos etc.

thanks!

Toon

tap water is drinkable and safe - just the mineral content is high - i can taste it and smell it in tea - i bought a water jug and we filer all ours but it may be worth investing in a proper water filter unit for the sink.... bottled water you can get cheapest from lidl..... and as for detergents stick with the local or italian ones if you can theyre very good and as good if not better than the major brands. we swear by formil for washing machines, dousi for conditioner, and fabuloso for floors. all very well priced.

martelli

that was quick! thank you toonarmy! although a water filter is not an option as the accomodation is already arranged. unless there are filters easy to find and install and cheap to buy!!:)

bonjour frediy! thank you for responding. maybe we can meet sometime since i'll be staying in gzira too!

have a nice day!

am sure GnG said the installed water filters are about 300e...jugs are about 12-15e and the filters can range between 3e-5e each - but will last 4-6 weeks depending on throughput - we tend to buy ours online via amazon or get friends to buy them from the UK major supermarkets and they bring them over for us - usually about £2 each.

we have a car now so lugging water is not a problem - but when we first got here  we lugged gallons of water each week - so there s not just the cost side to consider.

martelli, hi :D

If you google supermarkets in Malta, you can see the prices of food and groceries.

I tend to do a big shop once in a while at Carrefour and have it delivered.

Toon

you can of course buy or rent one of the hot n cold water dispenser with the big bottle on the top....

Toon

shoppers is a GS store and they def do carrefour stuff

Probably maltasupermarkets, the online side of GS (yes carrefour products)

I've also used them, very handy for heavy stuff, and same as doing online shopping in UK

By the way, in case some of you don't know, you get 2 or 3 free packs of water (or one pack of softdrinks or 5€ voucher alternatively) when you spend 100€ or more in Scotts or Tower Supermarket in Sliema. I don't know about other supermarkets.
Always interesting to build a stock of water. :)

Same at GS

martelli

all of this is good to know! but i already tried to google supermarkets but with no luck regarding prices. i'll try again and then ask for your help-again. :)

In Gzira there is Gala supermarket on Testaferrata street (near Skoda/Audi car centre)

You can also order from Greens online:

Smaller selection, but more interesting and of course different prices.
