English Premier League matches?

Hello everyone my name is Vee from Bangkok, Thailand. I am new to this forum as I just learned that I will be heading to Tripoli for 4 year work assignment beginning this June. Glad to see that I am the first Thai national to register for the Libya forum.

I have been doing some reading about the country as well as going through the threads in this forum and it seems one of the main means of entertainment (apart from socializing with other expats and having coffee at the cafes) might be watching cable TV and playing PS3 at home, hehe!

Anyhow, I am a huge fan of English Premier League football so decided to post this question: Is there good coverage of live EPL games on local TV? If not, which cable service provider provides the best coverage?

Awaiting your responses,
Thanks!

Sandman6

I get all the live games on DSTV - see the thread a few down from this one

Tarkus

You can get all the EPL matches live thru OSN.

But what you can't get is BBC i player which is far more concerning on a Friday for a man from the UK but maybe not for a man from Thailand.

veechansa

Thank you for the responses Sandman and Tarkus. Good to know EPL will be available.

Being a footie fan, I would like to know also: what about the UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup matches? I've looked up OSN and it seems they don't have license to cover UCL. For the WC, will the local channels be broadcasting all the matches this summer?

Cheers, Vee

Tarkus

You will need to get Jazeera + channels for Champions League.
Not sure who is covering the world cup but I'm thinking it will be either OSN or Jazeera.

Sawadee Khun Vee,

Let me know when you're here. Mrs Mudman is Thai and knows alot of Thais here in Tripoli. A good source of Som Tam :)
Shame you'll miss our Songkran party, but I'm sure it'll be better in Thailand. ;)

Jackdaw

Hi Mudman,
I have just arrived here, but seeing that you have knowledge of the city, I wonder if there are any Thai massage places here?
I have come from the ME and the Thai people are the best for this so if you know of anywhere please advise.

Many thanks

Clansman

Vee welcome my friend, big big fan of Muay Thai, Al Jazeera sports package 90LYD per year will get you the best sports coverage for your money.

veechansa

Thank you for the responses, it seems I'll have to decide between getting a dish for DSTV or subscribing to OSN + Jazeera sports package. I'll look into the details after I arrive there.

To Mr. Mudman: this is very exciting and unexpected news indeed! I will be in Tripoli from early June for work assignment at the Thai embassy. I do look forward to meeting you and your wife, as well as getting to know other Thais there! As for Songkran in Thailand, I hope this year won't have as much disruptions due to political situation as last year! If so, then I'd rather celebrate Songkran in Tripoli, hehe!

To Jackdaw: I enjoy Thai massage once in a while as well, and agree it's most relaxing and healthy. I read in the forum threads somewhere that there is a place recently open in Benghazi that offers Thai massage service, although the prices are ridiculously high compared to what you can get in Thailand. Not sure if there's any such service in Tripoli though. Perhaps Mr. Mudman or Sandman can advise?

To Clansman: Muay Thai is getting more and more popular. Have you seen any live boxing matches in Thailand? It's quite an experience!

Mudman

Sorry, not aware of anyone doing Thai massage, but I know of several expats who do western massage & sports massage.

Clansman

Vee I have many friends in Scotland who do Muay Thai, I have trained in it a bit as well although mainly Chinese Boxing is my sport of choice. I have even had a friend who trained in Thailand with a world champion (can't remember his name)and it is hugely popular back home. Mixed martial arts is also big in the UK, and I am trying to find a club in Tripoli so I can train here, if I find anything I will let you know.
