Actually CAF, you are damn lucky you got away unscathed. We have heard of some terrible horror stories that people have experiened here that would make Alfred Hitchcock blush....

You better make some serious supplications to your Creator.

I've seen this before in Riyadh.

There was also the story about the female football fan who used to dress up as a male to attend matches at stadiums.  I don't remember if that was from when I lived in the Emirates or here, but remember the story.

The men of Riyadh drive worse than the women of any country I have ever lived in or visited...and that is quite a few.

Actually there is no law prohibiting women from driving.  It's all social convention, not legality.

shahab.ali

hey stretch and dmanugas, i didnt mean girls are bad drivers...but in saudi arabia all the guys wud hit their own cars as they wont be watching the roads...their eyes will be somewhere else! thats y i mentioned men and their cars!

MisterStretch

Now, there you have a point.  It really is amazing how much attention they pay to women in public.

Alethe

I've got to the end of my patience with our compound transport service.  They fail to show up, or show up late to collect our children from after school activities so frequently that I have no trust left in them.

Does anyone use a driver who they'd trust to collect unaccompanied primary school aged children?

CAF

Alethe - Look back in this thread to one of my notes and you'll find the number to the driver & car service that I use.  They are great!

Since oyu have kids and prop need to do some shopping, etc., you may want to consider hiring a full time driver for your family.  Its much more cost effective and they are on your time schedule as required.

Alethe

Thanks CAF.

The compound bus is fine for shopping & does work for standard school pick but unfortunately is has become some unreliable for after school program pickup that I'm no longer prepared to trust it.

Its always convenienet to have a reliable Limo drivers mobile phone contact available to call for such necessities. Most compounds do have regular Limo (Taxi) drivers who provide services for their tenants.

Alethe

We do have a limo driver service at our compound the problem is that it is not adequately reliable during the after school period.  I no longer trust them to collect my children, they've not turned up or turned up massively late too many times.

As the demand for apartments has been increasing we've seen a steep increase in rent more than 50% in 2 years and a major cut back in services, maintenance and transport services have both suffered badly as part of this.

Alliecat

In what area do you live??

I'm over near the DQ and can recommend a very reliable limo driver if you're in this area.

Alethe

We live at FAL near exit 8 and our children go to the American School on the opposite side of town.  Which is a really bad combination.

musicman

Alethe, you need to move to Ranco Village which is just a few meters away from the AIS

Alethe

If we stay we definitely need to find a new place to live.  The current transport arrangements for American school from FAL are completely inadequate.

We are still tossing up what to do next year, wages in KSA do not seem to be keeping up with cost of living increases (rent & school fees in particular).
