If you research the ideas, you may want to eliminate some.  Basically its a 2hr 30 minute flight from KL to Borneo. There are internal connecting flights from KL to Penang, Langkawi, Terengganu and other cities. Once you have an idea what the different places are like and whether they are of interest its probably going to be easiest to use KL as your arrival and departure point.

Malaysia's tourism is still very underdeveloped. You should note that it is still developing its 21st century identity. Simple and laid back would be how I would describe what is on offer.  It has some lovely destinations but they require a bit of hands-on enjoyment and best discovered on foot (with frequent stops for a cooling drink).

Be aware which time you come to Malaysia because of weather conditions during the different seasons as there are monsoons affecting the climate.
