What we are doing is known as 'teasing.' People only tease others they like so no need to rescue, clarify or prove a thing!

Don't get carried away. I said that to make a POINT that the_dreamer would clearly understand
...and the dreamer is wearing a skirt. i cant imagine shahab in one. not yet, though...

Honestly, I can't turn my back on this forum for a minute
wen r u reaching here?
Thank you Spitfire, for asking all of those questions, and to Shahab, Mr Stretch and Ayah in particular for some very informative answers. I've been wondering about most of the same issues.
I was especially happy with the info on the American International School, as apart from their own website I havn't been able to find current opinions on the schooling there. Does anyone know of any Australians studying there, and how they found the transition?
Good things in Riyadh... = Diet World in Al Faisaliah mall...
Yumyum..
how can diet food be yum yum...gotta check now
No fat, no sugar, no calories, no carbohydrates, no taste.
Yum, yum.
Janric,
Of the westerners in KSA, I found that UK, French, Americans, Canadians and Australians make up most of the registered citizens with their embassies. Roughly in that order.
You'll find other forums here that touch more on the school issues and then you can write directly to the schools. Get a ton of paperwork for your older boy, with grades and any testing, etc. If you want your little one to attend, I'm not sure what he'd need. But I THINK they can attend the same school with different sections, k-6, middle school and then high school all on the same premises IF it's the school I"m thinking of.
Good luck!
shahab - i can 100% gurantee that the DREAMER wears an abaya and an admirer

Yeah real diet food is like that, this place is like chinese takeaway but called dietworld???
I think it is just cooked with consideration for not overdoing it on the fat, salt and sugar content.
Anyway I would rather have it over Mcdonalds yuk
It is very nice anyhow
I may be the one who needs diet food more than anyone here but just cant make up my mind do it....How u guys do it:/

Thanks for the info, Nelson!
You know, I saw that place in passing but thought it was a diet CENTER (a place to advise you on diet, exercise, etc.) and didn't realize it was a restaurant.
Low cal Chinese???? I'M THERE!
Oh, and I must mention Shababy's new pic. How ~cute~!
I guess it's an all-out WAR for admirers now. I need to post my hot pic wearing my 'low cut' abaya!

Rules for keeping weight off as told to me by a doctor:
1, Eat less, do more.
2, Eat breakfast.
3, Eat salad.
4, Do not eat after 8 pm.
I think that doing some exercise like going to the gym 5 times aweek also helps.
I think that doing some exercise like going to the gym 5 times aweek also helps.
Believe it or not, all people need is a half hour of vigorous exercise 3X a week to stay fit (if they are watching their food consumption).
However, 1/2 hour 3X a week isn't going to do much to help you lose weight, just to maintain your weight.
It's easy to start off with walking after dinner, nonzie.. walk with your hubby. I know Riyadh isn't pedestrian friendly but some people do 'mall walking,' especially in the heat (but you can't stop to window shop lol).
Oh man!! u guys have no idea how much I had to talk at my work.
upstairs
downstairs
here
there
I mean Shuuuuuuuu .............
yeah But u r right,i have to change my routine and do something really serious

Haha, I probably need to take my own advice:
walk up and down stairs instead of taking lift, walk to places in-place of taking car ( I used to drive to the local co-op shop when I could have walked to it and back in 10 min)every little bit helps.
I have also been told by people at work that there are a few things to do like playing golf, dirtbiking/motocross.
You know there is bowling in Al Khozama?
you could start an expat soccer team or something
You know of course that the BEST exercise is pushing yourself away from the table...

yups!! u r correct...believe me its harder than powerlifting
a lot of very good information on this thread. I wear a cross on a chain so I will make sure I do not bring it. It also tells me not to bring and dvd movies over there and to remove all photos from my laptop. I take it that there will be a place in county to buy my wife the proper attire?
Wait, did someone say "Eat LESS and do MORE"? OMG all these years I've had it backwards!!....Ahhhh, well, that changes everything! So let me say thank you, thank you thank you for clearing that up. Now if I can just keep those facts straight, I'm sure I'll finally lose weight.
Seriously is a bit of a surprise. I listed "getting in good shape" on my "Pros to moving" list b/c I assumed with the heat (we're talking crazy Africa hot heat stroke type of heat, that is) I would not be very hungry AND there are so many gyms on the compounds listed. Hmmm. I am guessing the reason for the weight gain (other than confusion about those silly "eat more OR less and do more OR less "theories") is b/c there are not a lot of things to do and going to a restaurant is one of the allowable ones.
Yes there IS a lot of good info here. The cross thing and no Santa Claus or Christmas tree decorations was another tip I would not have thought of. When they say don't bring bibleS, at first I thought they meant don't bring "extra" ones but that you could bring ONE of your own, like THE family bible you have. But even that remains unclear to me so I'm assuming I should bring zero bibles.
As for the cross thing, does this mean they go through our jewelry piece by piece? I know there's a relatively low crime rate but does anyone worry that things will get stolen while the police look through all these things? Same for the DVDs. In one of our military moves stateside, we were missing a lot of DVDs (no, there wasn't any porn either, just good films!) and it really bugged me. We'd "lose" things in every move and it gets to feel pretty crummy.
I was planning on bringing a trunk of clothes and a medium trunk of personal home items like family photos and some movies and books, and doing the same for our daughter. She's nearly 13 and I can weed out pictures of her friends at the pool or the beach I guess. But since her friends play sports and are active they show their arms or legs in the pictures, (we live in a warm climate and don't wear coverings here) SO do I "weed out" everything but the class picture? I'll have to go through my daughter's things and that won't go over too well. To some, this is a seemingly small thing but I suspect it will matter a lot to our daughter and she's being a good sport about all this so....well, it gives me time to think of a bribe to compensate...
Hi Jswwjw,You may bring original DVD s but no porn collection and same with pics.i travel a lot and i do keep movies, personal pics including celebs and yeah our friend faced a trouble few months back during his custom at Riyadh problem when he was caught with 500 GB external Hard Disk with full of Ahhhmmm Ahhmmm:unsure....Anyway ,he had to pay 500 SR penalty and warning for second time.
Don't worry about the attire.U will have not only the world famous brand but a huge collection of amazingly beautiful gowns.I wish,i could fit in.
jswwjw wrote:I wear a cross on a chain so I will make sure I do not bring it.
Wear your Cross with pride (inside your shirt)
and if you have a Bible bring that too! (just don't bring in a box of them!)
You are not going into solitary confinement, you are coming to
Arabia..
that said, remember, no liquor, no pork, no porn
