Which is the best city in Europe?
Please write the name of city which you feel is the best, but you should explain it why it is the best city in Europe in the light of your experience.
I guess Vienna is the best city.
This is funny.
You ask us which city is the best in Europe by our own experiences and why.
You guess that Vienna is the best city without explanation.
Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds are not the best cities because they're crime infested, filthy hell holes.

Honestly I have no practical experience about which city is best in Europe because I have never been in Europe and I am planning to visit Europe soon.
I wrote Vienna as the best city in Europe because it is mentioned in the list of most livable cities of the world given at Wikipedia.
List of most livable cities
Please let me know about your experiences, which city is best and why in your opinion? Describe your chosen best citys features in the context what you experienced when you visited that particular city.
I like Rome because the people are friendly, the food and drink are good, there are TONS of things to see, and the area is beautiful.
Düsseldorf ! There is one of the bigest Carnival .More ambiences and friendly contacts!

I liked Rome, but found it too big, too crowded and dirtier than I expected.
Paris: great for the museums and food. It's also fun to just walk around and admire the way everything is displayed so beautifully in shops.
Berlin: for the new york feeling with more romantic architecture.
Nürnberg: perfect size, beautiful medieval architecture, great green areas, decent shopping, and a good mix of history from Durer to the rise of the third reich.
Reykjavík: northern lights! Great art & music scene and a cozy small size. Excellent access to wild landscapes.
Oslo: if you like forest access and viking ships, this is your place.
Dublin: want to talk to random drunk people on the street? everyone's super friendly here.
Bologna: best Italian city to be on a rainy day, especially if you like towers and tortellini.
Prague: omg fried cheese! Finally someone understands that the bread part of a grilled cheese sandwich is just a waste of calories.
in short, I've liked most places I've been for a great variety of reasons. Some that I haven't been as thrilled with include Florence and London. I'm also fine with not going back to Leipzig.

I went in the middle of winter, so there weren't as many tourists (and the litter that accompanies them) as normal. There were so many things there that I had seen hundreds of times in pictures, and it was surreal to get to see them in person.
Berlin was cool too. The only two things I bought for myself in Europe were some special Scotch from Scotland to share with my friends state-side and a piece of the Berlin Wall to remind myself of what happens when governments get too powerful.
Thank you so much for all of you to share your thoughts and experiences. Please keep going on and freely express your point of views about cities.
What I summarize from everyones comments is that there is no specific list of cities, everyone has its own choice and wishes thus it depends what you interest in then you may choose the best city according to your own priorities.
My idea city should be big in population, environment friendly having all qualities of life, awesome infrastructure to facilitate people. In this way, I think Zurich, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo and Rome are my choices.
Bremen is a nice small city in Germany, but the airport is so boring.

Isn't that a given?

Are there any exciting airports?
HaileyinHongKong wrote:Are there any exciting airports?
some are exciting for their lack of security or thrilling landing strip, some are exciting because of the potential adventures you could have with them as the starting point.
I have spent a lot of time in airports and as long as there's a comfy seat and my flight's not delayed, I rather enjoy the experience. People watching and a glass of wine is a great way to pass time while imagining what it'd be like to jump on the next flight to Russia or Dubai or somewhere I've never been.
I like the Denver airport.
ugh, Denver was one of those I'm not a huge fan of- what's up with all the escalators that haven't got parallel staircase alternatives? I hate being stuck behind a stream of people who're just standing there.
HaileyinHongKong wrote:Do they always play "Rocky Mountain High" on the PA?
No, but that would be awesome.

I don't know what it is about escalators, but I LOVE them.
Ofcourse, Rome. There are many spots to visit...
The Hague: everybody speaks English! so if you got lost, then you got nothing to worry about:).

The cities where I have been, are unique in their kind and it is difficult to say which is the best.
It depends what you are looking for and what you like.
But if I MUST choose then it will be Amsterdam.
Not because it is the capital city of my home country but every time when I visit, I feel the history and the free spirit on every corner and every stone from the old houses.
This is the city where you can be what you want to be, no matter what.
hope to visit those beautiful places...
Primadonna wrote:I feel the history and the free spirit on every corner and every stone
I feel a history of free spirits getting stoned...
It is a cool city though.
Panama is indeed a great European city. Just like Mongolia.

It's not my country, but I know what you mean. The history is all over the place. It's like cockroaches during a garbage strike.
When you land in some cities, it takes a while to feel the place. With Amsterdam, it just hits you. At least it did me.
The Van Gogh Museum is pretty cool too. I'm not usually into art museums, but I will go back to this one if I am ever in the area again.

I feel like Amsterdam gets a rather unfair reputation as being a destination that's only worth visiting if you like pot and hookers. The first time I went, my Icelandic colleagues from southern Holland were extremely concerned that terrible things would happen to me. Instead I found a fantastic hotel, delicious food, charming architecture, and a lot of people who were very welcoming to visitors.
Hi guys,
I lived in Dublin for 3 years and many people love it. I "like it" because I'm not into cold weather. Otherwise I would love it. It's always wet, but it's REALLY safe and charming. The transportation is excellent and safe as nowhere else I've been.
I've been to London Underground and seriously, it's old and crowded. Dublin's trains are way better and cheaper comparing to London one's.
Anyway, the best city depends on your own experiences in the city and what you like and don't like.

The Rijksmuseum is 5 feet away and a million times better.

A lot of people rely too heavily on stereotypes and myths. I'm sure most of what I know about Saudi Arabia is false.
I read somewhere that over 90% of the marijuana use in Amsterdam was by tourists. If people think it's a city full of stoners, they're going to be disappointed.
I adore Prague
It depends what you are looking for:
For a great climate, a friendly people, relatively cheap lifestyle and also well located hub for travel,Madrid is pretty impressive.
Summary:
For young, gap year experience and to travel Europe:Madrid is ideal
For a 30+ to late 40 looking for an excellent and executive paying job, perhaps nt...unless you come here with a posting.Salaries in Spain are on the low side.
London,,,for sure !!!!
I wish I can visit Paris and Rome and Italy someday with my family.
If you could, then you should visit them in the summer. Both have lots of museums with fine collections of arts. If you are into arts, you are in the right place . Amsterdam is also one of the best cities in Europe to explore arts.
