Why?  You're in HCMC.  I'm sure he'll meet locals just by walking around.  Hard to find Expats so he came on this forum to find some.

Hi Tim,
I've been living in Hoi An for nearly 2 years now... It's much better than HCMC... HCMC sux!!!.. There is a lot of expat aussies, Kiwi's, English, French... Err, lots of people from everywhere... It's a great mix of expats and VN people, here in Hoi An.
I grew up in Nth QLD, but my 2 brothers live in Langwarrin, Melbourne..... Last month I went for a 2 week holiday in MEL, and froze my arse off... MEL sux more than HCMC... MEL is cold and pointless.. HCMC is hot and pointless(I prefer warm than cold).
Never mind mate, it's a good choice(Hoi An).... Any questions about living in Hoi An, I'm happy to help.
Kind Regards
Greg

Also Tim, if you haven't spent too much time in Asia before, be careful of hot VN chicks, wearing too much red lipstick, taking 'selfies', as a profile pic... Be careful...(eg..nana 91)..

Easy one...don't sleep with a guy even if he professes he loves you  and you think it's true love.  If love is true, it's enduring and hence...the guy becomes your husband and you become his wife.

That is the easiest and cheapest way to prevent AIDS.

That is hilarious but a good tip.  Usually profile pictures are NOT what they appear in real life.  And it's just too easy to go on the web and fetch a hot looking model picture (or your friend's picture) to use as your own.

That's a classic !

Showed some of my friend's back in Australia photos of my BEAUTIFUL VN LADY WIFE and they all said I was full of 'it'
They all think she really IS some hot looking fashion model.

Off topic but Nana91 is a beauty, I am not fond of red lipstick but she is young and proably thinks it makes her more attractive.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes.  I enjoyed living in HCMC, looked into Hoi An, but found it has way too many tourists to enjoy.  I would rather be in Da Nang and visit Hoi An when I wanted to talk to see other native english people.

You mean the PICTURE of Nana91 is a beauty.  I can never tell if a person is real or not until I meet them.  I can make a fake profile of a hot(ter) girl and chat with you if you like...then maybe after a while of knowing you online, I will ask you to send me some money.  I could be a Nigerian Princess or...

Good news for you pathos, she has a FB account! :P
