I've only been to Đà Nẵng two times and that was in the middle of the night on the train.  But here's what I know about Tam Kỳ City

[When you use a Vietnamese name, you should include the accenting marks so 1) local people know specifically what you're talking about 2) they don't confuse it with similar names that have different accenting marks..i.e. Tam Kỳ, Tâm Ký, Tâm Kỹ.  I had to guess what city you were talking about and then did a google search for it.]

Translating from:
http://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tam_K%E1%BB%B3

Tam Kỳ City is a city-class and is the provincial seat of Quảng Nam Province with about 125,000 - 130,000 people...and that's about all I can tell you.

Oh hey, I found the English wiki on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tam_K%E1%BB%B3

Tam Kỳ (IATA: TMK) is the capital city of Quảng Nam Province, in the South Central Coast of Vietnam.

History

Tam Kỳ city has a history of more than 105 years. The town was established in 1906 under the Nguyễn Dynasty as an administrative and tax post. During the Vietnam War, the city was the main base of US military in Quảng Nam province. It was also a place which engraved many memorial moment of the province citizen in the struggle against the invasion. The communists captured the city on 24 March 1975.

In 1997, the local government made it the capital of Quảng Nam province. Since then, there has been substantial development within the city.

Tam Kỳ city is famous for Tam Kỳ chicken rice, which is recognised nationally and many beaches.

Transportation

The city is served by the Tam Kỳ Railway Station, which is connected to all routes from the North to South of Vietnam. It is 70 km from Da Nang international airport to the city, which takes about 1 hour of driving. It is 30 km from Chu Lai national airport. There is a free daily shuttle bus between the airport and the Quảng Ngãi city center. There are also other means of transportation including car and bus.

Here's also the English portal to the city's website for your further reading pleasures.

I get to learn something new everyday.  Now I know a little bit more about Tam Kỳ City.

freshair

Tam Ky, capital city of Quang Nam province. Quiet little town. Nothing happens there really. Well known for their chicken rice, but I've got better elsewhere.

thanks for the info guys. obviously not all foreigners are all blessed with Vietnamese script and key boards on their computers so putting the right accenting marks in the text is very difficult, and it is also very pedantic to believe that every body can.

You can google the Vietnamese name "english-tized" and a few similar Vietnamese words (with the accenting marks) will come up.  You can then copy and paste the Vietnamese names to this forum.

It clears out alot of confusion when you write the local names in local language and it also helps you in pronouncing it right.
