[EXPAT BLOG] IDEAS FOR MONTHLY MEET UPS

Hi everybody on the Dubai forums, I have been following the discussions here since quite a few months seeing that I am moving from Mauritius to Dubai in July. I have read so many post about how difficult it is to meet people and make friends. A good idea would be to organize meet ups such as the ones we organize monthly here in Mauritius! and I'm not talking about meeting for a drink, LOL. I would like people in Dubai to give me ideas such as spot discoveries, sport events, games and whatever which can be combined with picnics or BBQ on the beach or in the desert. Also please keep in mind that we need activities we can do with the children! I've lived in UAE many years ago and have been back for vacation a few times since 2000 but things have change a lot there so I need your help to start up on this! I will post the same on the French forum so that we can have multilingual meet ups as many of you seem to want to improve their French here, LOL. I hope to receive a lot of good ideas! Arlette

As I alreday suggested - Madinat Souk, Barzar.

Other suggestion is Barasti bar, at Meridien Mina Sayahi, it used to be a typical expat hangout.

Irish village is ok, but it's too hot to sit outside.

I'm in Abu Dhabi, but please let me know if you're all meeting up in Dubai. An hours bus ride is worth meeting with some like-minded people!

What about 14th of this month (Wednesday) at the Agency in the Souk Madinat? So long as it hasn't changed you can get 5 glasses of white/red wine for AED 100.

Hi Matt,
As I think I said before, if concrete meet ups start to be organized which is super, it's best to start up a new topic so that people don't get confused.

Unfortunately, we'll probably not be able to make it as my hubbie is working late evening shifts during this month and has to travel back home from Ras al Khaima after work!

Regarding meet ups, just keep an eye on the forum; meetups are generally announced as "Expat.com meet up ..." (there was one on the 27th).

Also as soon it is getting cooler, outdoor activities will certainly be organized.
