Hi ,
I am a researcher working on a new BBC Two seriescalled Wanted in Paradise where we take families who are thinking of relocating to their preferred destination. Once there they get chance to have a look, see the type of home they may be able to afford and look into the job market, education etc.
As some of the people we are filming are heading for The Maldives, it would be incredibly helpful if there were any UK expats involved with expat life who may be happy to give us their contact details so we could pick their brains about aspects of living there.
The series is being filmed imminently and will be broadcast on BBC Two early next year. There will be eight one hour episodes and one of these will feature families who are looking to relocate to the Maldives. As such it would be great to have a chat with anyone at your end who has made the move from the UK. Initially this could be a phone chat or e mail conversation but we may possibly want to do some filming with them to find out about their experiences. Perhaps they have set up their own business? We could talk to them about the process, how they found it etc Perhaps they have children who are in school there or have little ones in toddlers groups etc Really anyone who is happy to have a general chat with us would be incredibly useful.
Thanks so much,
Katy

I am a physician, have done MBBS and have experience of 15 months. I have a job offer but salary is low. Moreover, i have read many negative reviews about doctor's life in Maldives. But is very important for me that i should get a job in an island where internet and internet banking is available.
I don't know because i have heard that many islands don't have this facility.

HI all......
I am expected to move into Maldives. I am a pilot by profession. Just about few weeks back, I had a world of imagination about this country to be fun and exciting. One curious evening, I thought to check upon the lifestyle offered in the Maldives which brought me to a deceiving feeling of almost being lost and started to lose interest in moving into Maldives. The job I got is interesting which eventually may bring me in the end to Maldives but else that I feel bored already.
Also, other worrying part is residential complexes. I really like the condos at Platinum residences but they are miserably expensive. The guy said it would cost me 2800 USD per month. I just need a penthouse or 1-2 bedroom apt around 1000 bucks(USD). I like to have friends around me. Anybody interested to share apt in Huluhmale particularly at Platinum residence, do give me a buzz aimhigheagle1{at}hotmail.com. Enjoy the sunny beach.
hi all,
I got placed in Maldives in male as a school teacher my salary would be around 52000 INR , is it sufficient to manage in male , kindly let me know how much it cost for accommodation sharing and meal cost for the whole month ........

I too afraid of moving to Maldives. So negative opinions in internet and other friends of mine told.
I had even got employment approval also.i just have buy ticket and sit in a plane to Maldives.
People says very small Islands not more than 10000 population.quality of line below average.u cant send u r salay directly tou r country through bank .only upto 1000us dollars.remaining money u have to buy dollars in black expensive and via Western union money transfer.local Maldivian people attatitude very bad.high cost of living.food unless u cook otherwise very expensive in hotels.if u r earning halfof of it better stay in u r place and improve u r own practice. Dont pay so much huge service charges to recruitment agencies. U must think wheather go or not even if they send u free of cost.think and take decission.in my opinion I u want to move better try for gulf countries.but our own country is best in the whole world.hope these words are of some help tp to you.
u not doining any surgeries unless u r poated Male.

No choice. Have to go to work for 6 days, and then sleep all I can on the lone rest day. I see that your location is Cebu. Are you in Maldives now?
If you're looking for a fast food corner, there's one in Male City. It's called Marry Brown.

Hi All,
I am Asad and have recently moved from Pakistan to Male' Maldives with my wife and two children.
Male' is a compact city full of life and energy. It took us some time to get used to walking so much initially. Contrary to our perception, you can find almost anything and some more in this small city.
Finding good apartment at reasonable cost is a challenge for anybody coming to Male'. Took me some time to get internet and cable connection. Finding spices or food stuff of home country also takes time but we hired a Sri Lankan maid that can prepare almost all the local food. Local food is spicy but good.
So far we have only been to Hulumale and Villingili. Hulumale has very good water sports facilities and big beach for snorkling (which for the first timers like me is so much fun). Resorts are too expensive around December but will try some time soon.
We go out as family almost every night and try different restaurants. We particularly like submarines and burgers from Dinemore, Capriccio pizza from Pizza Mia, Nasi Goureng, Kottu Roshi, Masuni and Disko for breakfast (seriously you need to try this!).
People of Maldives are so helping, so young (expect the directors of all major businesses and government in their 30s), tech savvy (you will see almost everybody carrying the latest Samsung Galaxy or iPhone) and open.
For a country where rents are exorbitantly high and everything is imported, access to high school level education and its cost is very good. Back in Pakistan we paid 1,000 dollars in admission to a pre-school which in Male' costed just 130 dollar for the most renowned international school, on top of which they also provide you free uniform. For a country whose 99% area is water, the size of school amazes you. The school at Pakistan which I am talking about, operated their pre-school out of a home! This is one of the reason why Maldives is so ahead of its South Asian cousins in per capita income.
Overall, we are very happy and thankful to god for giving us this opportunity to see this amazing place. People say that it gets boring after some time but I think our children read that post and they keep us sufficiently busy
