This topic has been opened to allow you to announce any cultural event, such as concerts, shows, exhibitions etc taking place in Malta.

However I'd ask to only post the events here; if you want to comment on an event you attended, it would be nice to start a new discussion giving it the title of the event you are commenting.

Thanks

Picking up on Julien's helpful invitation, I would like to draw forum members' attention to the Malta Arts Festival and the accompanying Malta Jazz Festival.

The Arts Festival runs from 1 to 23 July, and includes music, visual arts, and drama.  Most events are in Valletta with a few open-air ones in Floriana.  Details at http://www.maltaartsfestival.com/ .

The Jazz Festival is a smaller event, essentially comprising three concerts on the evenings of 15-17 July, somewhere (I think) on the Valletta Waterfront.  I am not enough of a jazz aficionado to judge the merits of the performers.  Details at http://www.maltajazzfestival.org/ .

I hope that's of interest.  Best regards to all.

Just to add to John's note about Malta Arts and Malta Jazz. Try both events' blogs for more up-to-date info on the line-ups and insider comments (on merits of those Jazz musicians for eg).

One of the main reasons I ended up in Malta (lived here 16 years now) was Malta Jazz as I'd come down from the UK for it before moving here! It has been running for 20 years and has seen all the greats - Diana Krall, Mike Stern, Brecker Bros, the late Michel Petrucciani, Yellowjackets and more. It is a truly wonderful experience at Ta'Liesse, by the Fish Market, and even for jazz novices, it's very accessible, and a friendly event to chill out at.  For a dose of cultural comment and events listings, see http://www.maltainsideout.com where we try to put intelligent context to upcoming events.
