[EXPAT BLOG Meet Up] - Wed 14th July - at The Agency in Souk Madinat

How many times has someone initiated conversation of people meeting only to restart the conversation a month later?  Rather than let this happen again I thought I would suggest a night out.  Anyone who wants to meet new people should come along, that means singletons and non singletons alike.  Providing you want to make new friends and you are willing to take a chance the night should be a success.

I propose we meet at The Agency which is located within the Souk Madinat.  It is a pretty cool bar and on a Wednesday they offer of 5 glasses of red/white wine for AED100.  The link attached contains some images, some dialogue about the bar and a map on how to get there.  The time can be sorted nearer the date providing we get numbers.

The Agency

If the response to my blog is positive then I shall book a table under Expat.com.  This will prevent anyone having to walk around the bar asking others if they are with ‘the’ website.  Send me a message if you are keen and I will message you back the finer details.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi Matt,
I have relayed the message on the French forum!
I sincerely hope that we'll get a nice group together on this event and start networking.
Cheers

Hi Matt,
I think that you should post a list of those who are interested to join the gathering.

Of course, count on me!

FeeAcer

Hi Mila,
How are you? Happy to see our first participant. Of course, with Matt, we are going to compile the list of participants.
But so as to not make a too long topic, we asked the persons interested to send private messages (either to Matt or to me).

terence

Well done Arlette!!

I am sure you will rock in Dubai. We all miss you in Mauritius.
I definetely join one of your meet ups whenever I am in Dubai.

Terence

FeeAcer

Hi everybody,
We don't get much response from you regarding this meet up although I've read on various discussions how much you all get bored in Dubai !
Would you be more enclined to come to the meet-up if we changed the date to Thursday 15th or a Friday 16th? or/and change the location?
Please PM me about it!
Thanks Arlette

-> Hi Terence, thanks. You'll be most welcome any time; just tell me when you're coming so that we can organize something at that time!

Mila_777

Arlette, the location is fine, but there isn't much response first because it's a weekday, second, some people who used to be interested in meeting, might be not on the forum any more, or simply don't have a time to log, some are maybe shy, or who knows, but it'a always like that first time. I wouldn't postpone the meet on Wednesday.

GuestPoster3574

Hi everyone!

I am also new in Dubai. I would like to join you on Wednesday although i can not confirm that i can make it.

If i miss this one i will be looking forward for the next one, although I guess that it is a bit more tricky for most of the people to meet during the week.

Cheers,
Javi

Asif Baig

Hello Everyone

It was nice meeting all of you.

We missed Matt who did not show up. However interacting with all of you, exchanging views, thoughts, telling stories n expressing our personalities was a good gesture. It was fun. The place was cool but a bit noisy. I agree with Arlette that “the idea of the meet up was not only to meet each other but to make relations n strengthen the network”. Thanks to Arlette n Matt for making the arrangements n breaking the ice. It was a wonderful evening.  Looking forward to meet more people on the next meet up.

Marlèneke

Greetings to you Dubai Expat Meet Up Bloggers,

This looks like a great initiative and a unique opportunity to meet new people!  I will certainly join next time, that is, after mid September, because I have broken my foot six days after arriving here in Dubai and am now "slightly" immobilized with a cast on my leg.

Mmmmmmmm, yes, get well soon wishes are welcome, and even other suggestions to help making a "lonely" girl feel better...
:/:sick

Thanks,
Marleen

FeeAcer

Hello Marlèneke and welcome to one of my compatriots :)
Just so sad for you to have broken your foot! I would have proposed to visit you but I moved from Dubai last week and am now in Ras al-Khaimah!
I hope that you're not completely alone so as to have help when needed.
If you feel like it you may send me private messages if you don't want to talk about certain things on the forum.
Regarding next meet-ups keep an eye on top of the forum where we will be pinning the infos!
Get well soon :)
Cheers
Arlette

Marlèneke

Arlette,

Thanks. Very kind of you.  Hope to meet you some time.

Fortunately, the staff here, where I have a hotel-apartment, is very helpful and considerate.  Another thing, as opposed to Belgium, everything can be delivered easily to my door.  And thankfully there is internet...

I would very much like to participate in an Iftar dinner, because I have never experienced that, and I really want to get to know the local religion and culture.  I could take a taxi to the venue (am now in TECOM) and as long as I can sit for the dinner, it should go fine.

Regards,
Marleen

FeeAcer

Hey Marleen,
Let's say this topic is more or less old! :)
There's a new topic for the August meet-up which you might want to follow. August get together.
Cheers
Arlette

Sorry about not attending this meet after arranging it.  I suppose I can be forgiven as you all had a good time!!

FeeAcer

Wow! Look who is back! What happened to you Matt? Didn't see you or rather "read" you since before 14th of July! You just seemed to have disappeared :whistle: and yes you missed a nice evening !
So, many things happened since then : more meetups were organized (check the forum) and me and family moved on to Ras al Khaimah... pffouit! out of the hustle and bustle of the big city... very nice environment.
Anyways hope to meet you when we organize something in RAK :lol:
Cheers
