is facebook a dangerous and un safe chatting site ???

pandabear

It's up to you to make it safe or not...
if you ajust your settings you can make it so that only
your FRIENDS can go on your profile and see your pictures and everything
if you dont want strangers to see that stuff, do that.

amarakl

what does it mean dangerous from your view point?

amarakl

From a pure security point of view "YES"

Not only does it map you to almost everyone you know & you're exposed to any security vulnerability in Facebook " & the rest of the internet while we're at it" but they have surveys conducted on people's preferences & use it in market research.

I'm not too fond of conspiracy theories but Facebook seems like the ultimate intelligence collecting tool coz you're the one who puts all the info in :)

& The settings are downright disastrous every once in a while I have to monitor & readjust them coz they fallback to the default of allowing them to do whatever I don't want them to.

Just my two cents, but since the chatting doesn't seem encrypted & neither is the info then its unsafe.

Sofie7

It's dangerous even with the new security .
It has been responsible for phaedophillia in the UK , and a couple of deaths have been contributed by facebook .
Also there are many , what seems to be porn links which arnt being monitered closely enough ,

whedy

every site may be dangerous and may be safe it refers to your use but facebook usually is safe

Kryptonite

as a rule of thumb, dont post any personal things on a public website, social media sites are very hard to monitor and keep under control, act like you would act in the streets in a country like saudi arabia and you should be fine , lool

egylover4ever

I've heard that it's an intelligence tool. However, I use it to connect with people who support animal rights because I am an animal rights activist. So, it's not any dangerous for me.

It depends upon what it is used for. Some people use it in political issues which may be a bit unsafe.

thanks for comparing Expat.com to facebook :)

If we could get 1% of the amount invested in fb, I guess we could do great things on Expat.com too !

kkmmnnaa2000

I think every public website have some risk, it will depend on the information you post it on and the privacy setting of your profile moreover its safer to post the general public information like have new baby, wedding, engagement……etc.

Facebook is a medium like any medium ..... Internet in general, satellite TV, telephones, or even hotel lobbies, bars or weddings ..... Can be safe and can be dangerous .... can meet the right people and can meet the wrong people ..... can waste your time or can improve your life ..... it all depends on how careful (and sometimes how lucky) you are.
