Cost of living Port Vila

WayneCoates

Hi, I wonder if you might be able to help me with some information please?
I am currently putting together a bid for a 6 month posting to work in Port Vila, Vanuatu, and I would like to get a better understanding of the cost of living.
What would be an approximate cost for the following?
- 1 or 2 bedroom apt with air conditioning in the Port Vila area?
- Rough idea for monthly pricing of electricity?
- Monthly phone line/internet connection cost?
- Public transport prices?
- Cost of fuel?
Thanks
Wayne

(1) They are not cheap Wayne, approx 100,000 - 200,00 per month.
(2) Roughly 100 vatu per day or 75 vatu per kw. It is horrendeously expensive. We have to charge extra per day for our 2 bed holiday  cottage if guests require air-con. Regrettable, but absolutely necessary.
(3) Few have a phone line, we all have mobile. This is around 39 vatu a minute. Internet expensive, as an example a 100,00 vatu for 6mb.
(4) $1.50 per ride on the bus around town.
(5) 176 vatu per litre.

To counter this, anything local is cheap, meat, veges, fruit etc.

A small price to pay to live in paradise, and you will learn very quickly not to waste power.
