A New Tourist Attraction at Quilotoa Volcano

BobH

A project sponsored by the Ecuadorian Tourism Board has just completed an observation deck projecting out over the crater lake at Quilotoa.

The pictures at the link of the deck and the lake look like it's really cool (a similar projecting deck was built a few years ago at Grand Canyon).

Google maps says that Quilotoa is about 2.5 hours south of Quito, and about a hour west of Latacunga.

Sounds like quite the effort to get there, including a six mile hike to the rim, which is over 12,000 feet above sea level, with the lake itself about 11,300 feet above sea level.  I would think tourists might want to wait until they have been in Quito a few weeks before trying this adventure, but it does sound like a beautiful view.
