New Visa Laws 2015

As some of you may be aware, the visa laws in Vietnam have been changed since Jan 1st 2015

Under the new laws, those who currently hold C category (tourist) and B category (business) visas must now leave the country before the visa's expiry and return on the new visa categories. The C and B visas have now been abolished and are being replaced by newer categories.

To receive business visas in the future, expats must have supporting documentation proving that they have either a work permit for a company in Vietnam, or that they are involved in a company here (as an investor or owner).

If you don't have these documents then you must return on the new tourist visa category (valid for 3 months).

What this means is that border runs are likely to become more frequent as the tourist visa will not be allowed to be extended multiple times as you would have done in 2014 with the B3 visa.

If anyone needs further info, don't hesitate to ask or PM me

Yay,
The fine print does state that a Visa type, category or term etc, CANNOT be changed within the country.   I'm supposing they consider extending a B3 , and thus being issued a DL is doing it within the country.    The 3 month VOA you get at the airport on arrival are usually B3 anyway, even if you are only holidaying. ???? Why they classify it as a business Visa , who knows.

I've recieved about 6 Visa on arrivals, all B3s.   The funny thing is, after contacting 7 agents and the immigration office , none of them knew what was going on..... Just said come back in 10 days.
Very professional Eh....Those new Visa categories were drafted back on 14th June.  Nothing like being prepared for opening night eh.....but then again this is a developing country and that's why it's cheap.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to a week or two  away for a change. Should be good.

So pack your bags kiddies.....the night life in Phnom Penh can be interesting.

Yeah, under the new rules you can't change categories so now more changing between visas. The B3 is now finished. Basically anyone who was using the old B3 extension route will be forced onto the new "DL" tourist visa. It's valid for 3 months but I have no info yet on if it can be extended!

After speaking to a mate in Saigon yesterday, who was at the "immigration office" He was told 3 different things from three different immigration "officials" .
1.   You have to go to the Danang office to submit your papers.
2.   You have to leave the country.
3.   We are not accepting any applications at this time.

Reasons given were interesting, such as too many foreigners here working and not paying Tax,  illegals, cruise boat passenger total screw up that took 10 hours to get them off the boat with Visa issues, etc etc. It's all been too much for them.. Hence , if you see your agent  they will only get a guy at Immigration that's totally confused & pissed off.   They seem to think that the easiest way to sort it out is to tell everyone to fuck off and leave the country.

Personally , I think a little monetary inducement may "brain storm" a solution for this.   Unfortunately, my monetary inducement looks like going into the hands of a damsel in distress at a Phnom Penh night spot.    It's a tough gig.

The government have a 3 month grace period in which to abolish the B3 visa category (basically up intil the end of March). As a result, and with VIet New Year fast approaching, the officials are willing to bend the rules and do some extensions in order to get their Tet drinking money :D:D

But yeah, the prices being bandied around for B3 extensions are crazy (and you would still have to leave after that extension expires) so it's not worth it at all unless you absolutely have to remain here at the moment.
