Hi am chris and am goimg to be possibly teaching PE in Astana and like to know what the city is like! What activities I can get up to at weekends and at nighttimes! Am sporty and love my fitness and sports! Plus keen to meet new people - is this all possible in this new city?

Plus what are the winters like? Do you just stay in at nights for the winter months and have to wait for the summer to explore and socialise!

Cheers

Christine

Hi Chris!

Well, in winter it is cold and windy, not many opportunities for outdoor activities. Though I heard from my friend that there is an outdoor association where people from different countries meet and go skiing together, etc. Cross country skiing is possible in Astana. There is also a good skating rink available at weekends. There are several good fitness centres in Astana where you can relax. 2-3 big swimming pools. People usually go to malls, cinemas cafes, pubs when it is cold. Regarding nightlife, well I think it  is not so active as in Almaty. But on Fridays and Saturdays there a lot of people in lounge bars, disco, etc.
people here are friendly and keen on meeting new people. Food is not expensive, but a lot depends on where you buy it. The same is about quality.
Summers are good, hot only for several weeks probably. Also windy. In summer you can go jogging in the parks, walking near the river, biking, etc.
should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask :) .

BR,
Sultanat.
