I heard it was confirmed by several egyptian embassies in Europe that only tourists who booked via a travel agency could obtain a visa upon arrival. Any other tourists - like my mum if she s coming for a visit - must obtain visa from the egyptian consulate in their country :(
This is just another stupid idea, imho... What do they want? Attract only the cheap AI tourists? No more individual travelling here? People will simply stay away, there are a lot of alternative destinations out there...

Ya … this decision get many people feel confused or sad … but recently I read on the egyptian newspaper ( al watan ) that the ministry of foreign affairs  will be reviewed again upon the request of  that the ministry of tourism to avoid this harmful effects on the tourism sector .
About ur mom why she didn’t ask for renewal non tourist visa for 1 year … I think that available for her as she a grand mom for Egyptians citizen .

I didn't know there are any other options but a tourist visa for my mum. So far it was easy - get the visa from the airport. For any other visa means going to Mogamma, no way! She s got some health issues and she is coming for 3 or 4 weeks once a year. Not worth it... She would rather go to the embassy in Berlin, more civilized ;)
